Payroll Accountant – Park West Health System, Inc.
Position Summary The Payroll Accountant is responsible for managing all aspects of payroll processing with a focus on accuracy, timeliness, and compliance. This role requires expertise in Paycom payroll software and a thorough understanding of payroll systems, tax regulations, and reporting requirements. The Payroll Accountant ensures staff are paid accurately and on schedule, maintains payroll records, and supports organizational compliance with applicable laws and internal policies.
Essential Functions
Payroll Processing: Manage and process bi-weekly payroll cycles for all employees using Paycom software.
Timecard Verification: Verify employee timecards and overtime calculation for accuracy.
Deductions and Withholdings: Ensure deductions for taxes, benefits, garnishments, and other withholdings are correct.
Tax Compliance and Reporting
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations.
Calculate, reconcile, and submit payroll taxes on time, including federal, state, and local filings (W-2, W-3, 941, etc.).
Prepare year-end reports and assist with the preparation of W-2s for employees.
Data Management And Reconciliation
Reconcile payroll liabilities, including taxes, benefits, and deductions.
Maintain accurate payroll records, including employee pay rates, deductions, and tax information.
Perform monthly, quarterly, and year-end reconciliations to ensure accurate financial reporting.
Employee Inquiries And Support
Serve as the point of contact for employees regarding payroll-related questions and concerns.
Assist employees with Paycom access, login issues, and questions about deductions or payroll discrepancies.
System And Process Improvement
Utilize Paycom’s reporting features to generate regular payroll and financial reports.
Recommend process improvements to streamline payroll procedures and enhance system efficiency.
Assist with testing and implementing system upgrades or changes to Paycom.
Compliance And Auditing
Assist with internal and external audits related to payroll and compliance.
Maintain knowledge of payroll laws, benefits regulations, and industry best practices to ensure compliance.
Collaboration
Work closely with the HR department to ensure accurate employee data is reflected in the payroll system. Collaborate with other finance team members to ensure proper allocation of payroll expenses.
Qualifications Education
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field preferred. Equivalent experience may be considered.
Experience
Minimum of 2-3 years of payroll processing experience, preferably in a multi-state environment.
Proven experience using Paycom for payroll processing and reporting.
Strong understanding of payroll taxes, deductions, and benefits administration.
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with HRIS (Human Resource Information Systems) and benefits administration.
Certification such as Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) is a plus.
Experience in a fast-paced, multi-location company environment.
Skills
Proficient in Paycom software and related payroll systems.
Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax laws and regulations.
Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and complex formulas.
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
