What You Will Do
Position Summary:
Serves as a key Financial Counselor, ensuring patients and families understand their insurance benefits, financial responsibilities, and available assistance programs. This role emphasizes financial clearance through accurate insurance verification, benefit eligibility, and authorization processes, while also supporting efficient and accurate patient admissions. Strong communication and customer service skills are essential to delivering compassionate guidance, ensuring compliance with health system standards, and promoting a positive patient experience.
Responsibilities
Provide financial counseling and assistance to patients and families. Verify insurance benefits and determine patient financial responsibilities. Assist with benefit eligibility and authorization processes to support admissions. Deliver accurate information and compassionate guidance in line with health system standards. Promote a positive patient experience through clear communication and excellent service.
Required Qualifications
Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED required. Minimum Experience: 2–4 years’ experience in a medical facility, health insurance, or related area. Strong knowledge of Government and Commercial Insurance Plans, including Managed Care. Skilled in navigating payers and government websites for insurance verification. General understanding of medical terminology; course in Medical Terminology preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload and establish effective working relationships across the Health System.
Preferred Qualifications
2–4-year college degree in Business, Accounting, Medical Administration or related area preferred. Knowledge of University and medical center organizations, policies, procedures and forms.
