About The Role & Team

Walt Disney's Animals, Science and Environment team is dedicated to caring for animals and the environment, connecting people to nature, and conserving natural resources. The Savannah Animal Keeper Associate supports the Kilimanjaro Safari operation, working with fellow keepers to care for the Savannah collection of animals. Role type: Casual Temporary or Seasonal with no guarantee of weekly hours; hours fluctuate based on business needs. You will report to a team of Savannah Zoological Managers. What You Will Do

Keepers are responsible for day-to-day animal care and welfare, including husbandry, enrichment, and operant conditioning related to the daily management and research of assigned species. Maintain daily routines for cleaning, animal observation, diet preparation, and reporting medical needs or abnormal conditions to Zoological Managers. Maintain daily records using ZIMS; collect, log information, and communicate findings to management and the central animal record-keeping system. Work includes physical labor in outdoor temperatures and weather conditions in Central Florida, including heat and humidity. Provide animal information and conservation messages through guest and cast interactions. Work effectively in a large team environment and partner with maintenance, operations, horticulture, veterinary staff, educators, and scientists. Maintain a flexible schedule to support Safari operation hours, including early morning starts or late evenings as necessary. Required Qualifications & Skills

Minimum of one year of paid animal husbandry experience in an AZA-accredited facility or institution with comparable standards, OR at least two years of verifiable college coursework (60 semester hours). Experience working with a variety of African species, including large and small ungulates, carnivores, and equids. Experience with different taxa with an emphasis on operant conditioning. Strong observation, evaluation, and data collection skills. Ability to meet physical demands, including lifting up to 50 lbs (hay bales, feed bags, etc.). Strong guest service skills and valid US Driver’s License to operate company vehicles backstage and across the savannah. Preferred Qualifications

Experience or knowledge of hoof care and hoof conditions. Education

Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree in Zoology or a related field preferred. Benefits & Perks
