Overview

Financial Aid Counselor/Program Coordinator provides processing and specialized financial aid functions to support administration of financial aid programs and delivery of funds to students. Responsibilities include determining eligibility, awarding aid, problem solving with students and parents, and making professional judgment decisions regarding student aid eligibility. The counselor provides leadership and program oversight over an assigned area of specialty; adjudicates appeals; and provides training to other staff. The position emphasizes equitable, inclusive, and culturally sensitive services, using a student-centered and equity-minded approach in all communications and service efforts. Key Responsibilities

Counseling and Outreach: Provide a broad range of student and family-facing financial aid services, including counseling and outreach for both state-supported and self-support students. Processing, Evaluation, and Program Oversight: Lead program management; serve as liaison for a programmatic area; facilitate access and student success through processing activities; provide decision-making support in complex situations; evaluate special circumstances; and exercise professional judgment. Knowledge and Continual Learning: Stay current with federal, state, and institutional financial aid regulations and trends; contribute to the Financial Aid Office and Enrollment Services through ad-hoc assignments. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Thorough understanding of current needs analysis methodology and federal/state rules governing financial aid. Ability to interpret, analyze, and apply financial aid and academic policies and procedures. Must keep abreast of regulatory and institutional changes and utilize competent computer system skills. Ability to handle information confidentially. Ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups and audiences, and to contribute to outreach activities. Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple tasks with short deadlines, and maintain attention to detail. Responsibilities also include maintaining operational integrity by documenting responsibilities from daily tasks to strategic activities, ensuring data quality and integrity in system processes, and adhering to university policies and guidelines on safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination. Education and Experience

Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a related field, plus two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas. Department, Classification, and Compensation

Salary placement determined by education, experience, and qualifications, internal equity, and department resources. Hiring Range: $5,083 - $5,250 per month, commensurate with candidate’s education, experience, skills, and training. CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,083 - $7,228 per month. 1.0 time-base, 40 hours per week. Duration of Appointment:

Temporary position for one year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date. Additional Information
