**Position Overview**
We are seeking a Tax Manager with a proven track record of success in public accounting to join our growing team. This is a strategic leadership position ideal for an experienced CPA who thrives on client service, enjoys solving complex tax issues, and is ready to take ownership of managing engagements, guiding staff, and contributing to firm growth. The ideal candidate is not only technically strong but also relationship-oriented, forward-thinking, and committed to excellence.
This role provides a clear path to upper management and equity partnership for the right candidate.
**Key Responsibilities**
**Tax Strategy & Compliance**
Oversee preparation and review of complex federal and state tax returns for individuals, partnerships, corporations, trusts, and exempt organizations. Identify tax-saving opportunities and deliver proactive planning strategies tailored to each client's unique circumstances. Monitor and interpret new tax legislation and communicate implications to clients and team members.
**Client Relationship Management**
Serve as the primary point of contact for a portfolio of clients, fostering trust through responsive communication, strategic insights, and high-touch service. Advise clients on a wide range of tax and financial matters, from entity selection and succession planning to compensation strategies and IRS audits.
**Leadership & Team Development**
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of tax professionals by providing technical guidance, regular feedback, and structured learning opportunities. Review work prepared by staff for technical accuracy, completeness, and adherence to firm standards. Promote a positive team culture rooted in accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
**Practice Management**
Coordinate workflow to ensure efficiency and timely completion of engagements during peak seasons. Support firm leadership in identifying opportunities for operational improvements, technology adoption, and service expansion. Participate in business development efforts, including networking, referrals, and community engagement.
**Qualifications**
CPA license in good standing (required). Minimum **5+ years of recent public accounting experience**, with significant exposure to complex tax issues and client advisory. Demonstrated experience supervising, mentoring, and developing staff. Strong technical knowledge of the Internal Revenue Code, state tax regulations, and current developments in tax law. Proficiency in tax software (e.g., UltraTax, Lacerte) and accounting systems (e.g., QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel). Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey complex information in a clear and client-friendly manner. High level of integrity, professionalism, and client service orientation. Desire to live and work in a vibrant small-town community with a meaningful quality of life.
