Overview
Capstone Investment Advisors is looking to hire a Tax Manager to join the finance team in a growing, fast-paced environment that presents significant learning opportunities and interaction with senior personnel. This hire will be responsible for all aspects of tax, including setting tax strategy for the firm. This position will report to the CFO and will work extensively with both the management company and fund controllers. Responsibilities
Responsible for all tax planning, structuring and compliance for both the management company and fund accounting functions: Management Company Lead tax consulting calls with external providers, including staying on top of legislation updates and briefing management on impacts and suggested responses Continuous evaluation of optimal tax structures for both the management company and the funds Lead calls regarding potential offices/employees in new jurisdictions. Prepare analysis of business impact of local tax laws Liaise and own the relationship with accounting/tax firms for K-1s and tax filings for all global entities Manage complex partnership PNL allocations Deferred compensation arrangements Administer withholding and remittance of Pass-through entity tax Transfer pricing for all global entities Employee/partner related tax issues: UK salaried member rules, etc.; Worldwide deferral/clawback structures Stay up to speed on current tax legislation to determine impact on the firm/funds and plan accordingly Responsible for all tax compliance: US state and local (NY, CT, CA, PA, MA, MN, NJ, 1042 withholding); UK corporate tax filings, P11D, PSA, VAT; Netherlands annual tax filings; Australia annual tax filings, monthly/quarterly reporting; Hong Kong corporate tax filings; Italy corporate tax filings, VAT; Japan corporate tax filings; additional jurisdictions as added Tax estimates as needed Liaise with the firm’s partners and their tax providers to ensure alignment with changes at the firm Ad hoc analysis as necessary Fund K-1s and tax filings for all entities Dividend withholding tax — review for 871m combination rule withholding as well as US dividend withholding Fund structuring for new fund launches (customized fund of ones for single investor vehicles and multi-investor vehicles) including US (LP, LLC), Cayman (exempted companies and LPs) and Irish (ICAVs) entities Review of tax sections of PPMs for above Tax election analysis (e.g., 475 elections) and tax treaty analysis for foreign investors Research tax treatment and field tax questions from portfolio managers regarding security-specific tax questions including MLPs, SPACs, REITs, etc. Explore tax considerations when onboarding new portfolio managers/pods and sign-off on new product approvals as they relate to tax treatment, including emerging markets ASC 740 analysis for the fund’s annual audit Ad hoc analysis as necessary Our Future Colleague Has These Skills
7-12 years of experience with a hedge fund or other alternative investment advisor/real estate advisor is preferred; Tax experience is a must Self-starter who can drive the tax function and strategy Knowledge of hedge fund manager structures (manager vs. GP entities) and fund structures (e.g., master-feeder, single investor) required Understanding of partnership taxation including experience with tax allocations strongly preferred Ability to work independently and self-educate on key tax topics strongly preferred B.S. in Accounting or Finance; CPA certification is a plus Bonus Skills

Base pay is determined by experience, skills, training, location, certifications, and education.
