Overview
The County of San Diego Medical Examiner's Department is recruiting Deputy Medical Examiners. This position involves visiting scenes of death, performing post-mortem examinations to determine probable causes of death, testifying and providing medical evidence in court, and preparing findings. Entry-level class: Deputy Medical Examiner I. Responsibilities
Visit scenes of death and conduct post-mortem examinations. Determine probable cause of death and prepare reports of findings. Testify and provide medical evidence at grand jury and court trials. Perform microscopic tissue examinations and related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications
A valid license to practice medicine in the State of California at the time of appointment (Business and Professions Code 2135). Must obtain board certification in Forensic Pathology within one year of hire; and Board certification in Anatomic Pathology; and Participation in a Forensic Pathology Fellowship (in progress or completed). Compensation and Benefits
Future Salary Increases: June 2026 – 5.43% increase to base pay (3.5% Across-the-Board + 1.93% Market Adjustment); June 2027 – 4.93% increase to base pay (3% Across-the-Board + 1.93% Market Adjustment). Recruitment Bonus: $1,250 upon completion of the hiring process; $1,250 after successful completion of the probation period. Relocation allowance: up to $8,000 may be eligible. Other Information
