The State of Connecticut, Division of Criminal Justice (DCJ) is responsible for the investigation and prosecution of all criminal matters in the State of Connecticut. It is an independent agency of the executive branch of state government, established under the Constitution of the State of Connecticut. The Division is composed of the Office of the Chief State's Attorney and the Offices of the State's Attorneys for each of the thirteen Judicial Districts in the State of Connecticut. About This Position

We are recruiting for one full-time Deputy Assistant State's Attorney or Apprentice Prosecutor position for Bridgeport, CT. This position works Monday through Friday, based on a 40-hour work week, with core hours of 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Salary Information: The starting salary for a DCJ Deputy Assistant State's Attorney is $93,275 annually; the Apprentice Prosecutor is paid at $44.67 per hour. A Prosecutor is a high public official, who is ethically bound to seek impartial justice for the guilty as well as the innocent and is beholden to the law, which demands that no passions, prejudice or resentment be brought to bear in its faithful enforcement. As a Deputy Assistant State's Attorney

The incumbent, at the time of appointment, must be an attorney at law and a member of the Connecticut Bar in good standing. Prior to employment, candidates will be required to complete a background check, and appointment to this position is made by the Criminal Justice Commission. The incumbent may be required to travel in the course of their daily work. As An Apprentice Prosecutor

Any student of an accredited law school who is within five months of graduation from such law school and who is a certified legal intern pursuant to the rules of the Superior Court is eligible to be appointed as an Apprentice Prosecutor and shall advance to the position of Deputy Assistant State’s Attorney upon gaining admission to the Connecticut bar within one year of graduation. Examples of duties

Review documentation related to assigned criminal cases and infractions; direct further investigation. Prepare cases for arraignment, select charges, prepare statements of facts. Review defense motions and prepare responses; interview witnesses and victims. Evaluate case strengths; perform legal research; negotiate pleas. Conduct pre-trial conferences, jury selection, and trials; review warrants; liaise with police; advise victims; handle habeas corpus petitions; participate in appellate work as applicable; review search and seizure warrants.

Knowledge, Skill and Ability

Knowledge of state and federal criminal law; legal processes; division authority. Interpersonal, negotiating, trial and counseling skills; oral and written communication. Ability to analyze legal problems and write briefs and supporting documentation.

Minimum Qualifications

Deputy Assistant State's Attorney: must be an attorney at law and a member in good standing of the Connecticut Bar. Apprentice Prosecutor: law school student within five months of graduation and certified legal intern; background check required. EEO Notice
