Job Description Salary: $70,000 Budget Title: Senior Staff Assistant (SL-3)

The Thomas J. Watson College of Engineering & Applied Science at Binghamton University seeks a passionate, dedicated, and creative professional to serve as Assistant Director of the Office for Excellence in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (WEDEI). The primary responsibility is stewardship of the Watson College Scholars Program — a donor-sponsored program that supports access to higher education for economically disadvantaged students from underrepresented backgrounds. The program provides high-impact opportunities and academic support to serve as a pipeline to graduate study or to a professional career in engineering or computer science, built on four pillars: academic achievement, professionalism, networking, and community service. The assistant director plans and coordinates the operational, programmatic, and administrative functions of the Watson College Scholars Program and serves as the central point of contact among students, faculty, staff, donors, alumni, and external constituencies. The assistant director also supports the Director in WEDEI office operations.

Responsibilities

Coordinate the selection and onboarding of new scholars

Teach scholars seminar courses and develop related course materials

Coordinate with industry representatives on internships and mentoring opportunities

Coordinate global experiences and chaperone traveling scholars

Guide scholars in completing community service projects

Expand program offerings to advance the program's mission

Collaborate with communications staff to develop informational and promotional materials

Conduct assessments of the Scholars Program and produce an annual report

Oversee the Scholars Program budget

Expand the resource base to ensure sustainability

Maintain connections with alumni scholars

Assist the Director of WEDEI in day-to-day office operations

Requirements

Bachelor's degree

Experience managing complex projects

Experience planning and organizing activities and events

Experience developing performance metrics and evaluating data

Advanced writing and presentation skills

Effective interpersonal and communication skills

Ability to work with diverse constituencies in a diverse community

Ability to travel domestically and internationally; available for occasional evenings/weekends

Preferred

Experience serving diverse student populations

Experience with budget administration

Experience with program management and evaluation
