The Role The Counseling Program at The Family Institute at Northwestern University invites applications for a Core Faculty on-ground in Evanston, Illinois (full-time, non-tenure, courtesy rank/promotion eligible). This is a 12-month non-tenure track with clinical practice expectations at The Family Institute at Northwestern University. Teaching in person classes during the academic year (September to June) with clinical practice expectations year-round. This position may include opportunities for teaching additional courses/overload. As a visiting position this is a 12-month position with the option for renewal or revision to permanent position dependent on performance and budget approval for the following academic year.
The Department seeks experienced counselor education candidates who have expertise in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC). The Counseling Department at The Family Institute at Northwestern University is CACREP accredited as one program with two delivery methods (onground and online). They will be multiculturally competent and demonstrate counselor identity though memberships and participation in regional, national, and/or international professional associations and conferences. The ideal candidate will support the program’s historical foundation in psychodynamic and/or integrative thought and reflective practice and will be able to teach several courses in the CACREP-accredited curriculum. The successful candidate will have a track record of excellence in teaching, clinical practice, and graduate student supervision and mentorship. They will have a strong commitment to scholarship and experience in faculty teams and committees. This is a full-time, non-tenured position, with the possibility of promotion through the courtesy rank/promotion of Clinical Lecturer through Clinical Full Professor at Northwestern University.
Essential Job Responsibilities
Teaching quarterly (Fall, Winter and Spring)
Clinical practice (working with a weekly caseload of clients in TFI’s staff practice)
Serving as a member of the Clinical Training team
Serving as a member of admissions team
Academic advising
Mentorship of student scholarship (e.g., Capstone experiences)
Designation program committee leadership or membership
Program event planning or involvement (e.g., orientation, graduation, etc.)
Clinical supervision and mentorship
Scholarship
TFI service
Perform other duties as assigned by manager for business necessity
Other Job Responsibilities
Leadership or involvement in interdepartmental committees
Assisting with program’s accreditation activities
Assistant with program’s accreditation activities
Involvement in online-on campus program alignment activities
Representing the program in TFI wide activities
Summary of Qualifications Knowledge and Skills
Earned Doctorate from a CACREP Accredited Counselor Education and Supervision Program
Licensure as an LCPC in Illinois
Counselor identity as evidenced by professional affiliations, publications, and licensure in Counselling field
Evidence of ability to teach a range of courses within the discipline of Counseling
Excellent organization skills
Creativity, innovation, and ability to work independently and within a team
Ability to adapt to new and rapidly changing situations
Strong time management and problem-solving skills
Ability to successfully resolve issues from identification through resolution
Skilled at connecting and building rapport with students and faculty
Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Cultural humility and a strong interest in creating an inclusive and diverse community
Experience teaching in digital platforms (desired)
Minimum Hiring Specifications
Earned Doctorate from a CACREP-accredited Counselor Education and Supervision program
Experience teaching graduate level courses in clinical mental health
Scholarly track record
Experience supervising graduate students in clinical settings
License or licensed eligibility in Illinois
Residence in Chicagoland
Capacity to work in a digital environment

Compensation is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: scope and responsibilities of the position; a candidate’s applicable work experience, key skills and qualifications, as well as internal and external market considerations. The pay range for this full-time exempt position is $88,000.00 - $126,500.00/year.
