Overview
We are looking for a detail-focused and experienced
Senior Cash Applications Specialist
to join our Finance team. This position plays a vital role in the accurate and timely processing of incoming payments, supporting billing and receivables functions, and ensuring financial data integrity. The ideal candidate will possess a solid background in complex billing environments, strong analytical capabilities, and a proactive approach to resolving issues.
Responsibilities
Apply payments (including checks, wires, ACH, and credit cards) to customer accounts and outstanding balances using enterprise financial systems.
Investigate and resolve unapplied or misapplied payments by working closely with internal stakeholders and external contacts.
Track and reconcile trust-related or escrow account transactions in compliance with internal policies and applicable regulations.
Coordinate with billing and collections teams to maintain accurate customer account status and payment records.
Support month-end and year-end close processes by ensuring all payment data is current and properly recorded.
Identify areas for improvement in cash application procedures and contribute to workflow enhancements.
Provide guidance and training to junior team members, serving as a resource for best practices and technical questions.
Qualifications
At least 5 years of experience owning the cash application or accounts receivable processes, preferably in a complex or high-volume environment.
Proficiency with financial software systems and electronic billing tools.
Familiarity with structured billing procedures, client account arrangements, and compliance standards.
Skilled in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Strong problem-solving skills and a high degree of ownership over responsibilities.
Comfortable communicating across multiple departments and levels of leadership.
Works well in a team environment, especially in distributed or multi-location teams.
Exceptional attention to detail and follow-through.
Excellent time management, organizational, and communication skills.
Self-motivated, adaptable, and focused on achieving results collaboratively.
