Cypress HCM
Responsibilities:
Receives specimens of tissue and ensures proper accessioning and labeling of all tissue samples
Processes paperwork associated with accessioning and reporting
Performs routine and non-routine activities involved in the preparation of slides for microscopic evaluation by pathologist(s), per established SOPs
Prepares tissue specimens with chemicals, slicing, and mounting on glass slides for microscopic examination and analysis
Embeds processed tissue in paraffin
Performs coverslipping of stained slides either manually or automated
Performs all special stain procedures per established guidelines
Performs filing of finished blocks and slides
Helps maintain acceptable productivity, TAT and workflow
Reports problems concerning individual cases, tests, equipment, and supplies to the department supervisor or lead technologist to ensure timely resolution
Responds promptly to pathologists, technologists, and administrative requests
Maintains laboratory in a clean, functional state, as well as cleaning, performing or scheduling equipment and instrument maintenance/calibration/certification, as required. Documents remedial actions such as repairs or repeated tests
Demonstrates initiative in making suggestions to improve efficiency and productivity and provides consistent feedback
Attends monthly department and any additional training/educational meetings
Participates in quality control initiatives. Prepares lab for inspection from regulatory institutions
Qualifications: Associates degree in field and completed one year internship or completed a long-term training program in histopathology. Nationally: HT (ASCP) or HTL (ASCP) 1+ years of equivalent experience as a Histotechnician preferred
