Job Summary The Manager, Lease Accounting

is responsible for the overall accounting for leases in accordance with the FASB's Accounting Standard Codification Topic 842 ("ASC842"). Managing the lease life accounting cycle of a portfolio spanning more than 1,200 leases partnering with numerous landlords and the ability to interpret complex lease terms across diverse agreements. Jointly directs, supervises, and reviews the work of an offshore lease accounting team and one onshore team member. The role reports directly to the Senior Manager, Property Accounting.

What You'll Do

Serve as the company's ASC842 subject matter expert, overseeing lease classification, measurement, remeasurement, and disclosure

Manage the full lease lifecycle - New/Renewals/Modifications/MTM/Terminations with oversight of more than 1,200 leases across multiple states

Supervise and develop the team - One US based Sr Accountant and seven offshore team members (work US hours)

Analyze and interpret lease agreements/amendments that includes base rent, percentage rent, breakpoint provisions, CAM reconciliations (expense CAPS/CPI adjustments), tenant improvement allowances and landlord reimbursements

Overall responsibility for timely payment of rent and related amounts due to landlords and researching landlord inquiries

Ensure accurate and timely lease-related journal entries within the lease system and Oracle

Direct monthly lease accounting processes that include rent billings, sales reporting, ASC842 calculations, variance reporting and landlord financial statement deliverables

Overall responsibility for timely and accurate lease-related balance sheet reconciliations, including lease rollforwards and the reconciliation of lease accounting tool information to the General Ledger

Support the financial reporting team in the preparation of quarterly and annual lease footnote disclosures in the consolidated financial statements

Oversee preparation of SOX documentation and support external and internal audits

Manage a consistently high volume of landlord communications each week; success in this role requires exceptional organization and follow-up discipline

Contribute to annual budgeting and reforecasting providing lease-related drivers and analysis

Lead efforts to improve lease accounting processes and system efficiencies

What You Bring to the Team

Industry background in restaurant, retail, real estate, or hospitality

Experience working within public company environments

Proven expertise in ASC 842 lease accounting

Knowledge of SOX compliance and internal control requirements

5+ years of experience in commercial lease accounting or lease administration

Interpretation of complex legal lease provisions from multiple landlord agreements

Leadership experience managing both onshore and offshore teams

Proficiency in Excel and experience working with large volumes of lease data

Experience with lease accounting systems & ERP platforms (Oracle is a plus)

CPA preferred, but not required with strong technical lease accounting experience

Strong written and verbal communications skills and strong interpersonal skills
