Research Associate, Upstream Process Development

Perform laboratory experiments related to the development of robust upstream processes for manufacturing human therapeutic proteins produced in recombinant mammalian cells and bacteria. Design, execute, and analyze experiments at laboratory scale, including shake flasks, spin tubes, scale-down bioreactor systems (Ambr), and bench-top reactors (Applikon). Develop and characterize scaled-down models for upstream unit operations. Ensure accurate laboratory data entry, maintain lab facilities, and prepare reports. Support the identification and optimization of alternative laboratory methods and equipment to improve efficiency and throughput. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of analytical techniques and relevant scientific literature. Keep the Team Leader and Project Manager informed on project status and any circumstances that may alter scope or timelines. Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field. 1-5 years of relevant laboratory experience. Knowledge of and experience with cell culture techniques, including handling, aseptic technique, cell counting, media preparation, pipetting, centrifugation, and filtration. Knowledge of protein expression technologies. Experience in cell culture process development and Design of Experiments (DOE) is a plus. Knowledge of bacterial fermentation is a plus. Practical experience in cell culture demonstrated through presentations or publications. Ability to solve complex technical problems and participate in idea generation. Good communication and presentation skills. Team player with the ability to manage multiple projects and plan activities effectively.
