Position: Assistant Professor in Law, Economics, and Public Policy
Institution: University of Washington Bothell (UWB), School of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences (IAS)
Appointment: full-time, 100% FTE, tenure-track, 9-month service period
Start date: anticipated September 16, 2026
Focus areas: policy expertise in technology, media ethics, labor, environment, foreign policy, immigration, political processes, social policy, human rights, and global governance. The successful candidate is expected to develop an active research agenda and teach core courses in the Law, Economics, and Public Policy undergraduate major and the Policy Studies master’s degree.
Position Description The School of IAS at UW Bothell seeks applicants for a full-time (100% FTE) tenure-track Assistant Professor in Law, Economics, and Public Policy with an anticipated start date of September 16, 2026. Areas of focus are open within policy studies. Courses include Policy Analysis, Intro to American Government, and upper-level electives in policy or political science, and courses that contribute to other IAS majors and programs. The normal teaching load for the tenure track in IAS is 5 courses across 3 quarters. IAS houses fifteen undergraduate programs and two graduate programs. UW Bothell is located in the Seattle metropolitan area and provides access to UW system research and funding resources. The IAS mission emphasizes engaged scholarship, experiential learning, transformative pedagogy, and addressing diversity, power, and privilege in curriculum, scholarship, and partnerships. The school advocates an inclusive and just community of students, faculty, and staff.
Responsibilities
Carry out an active research agenda (area of emphasis is open).
Teach core courses in the Law, Economics, and Public Policy undergraduate major and Policy Studies master’s degree, including courses such as Policy Analysis and Intro to American Government, plus upper-level electives in policy or political science and related areas.
Deliver innovative and effective pedagogy in public policy within a liberal arts education context.
Support and engage students from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, and academic backgrounds.
Contribute to IAS programs and collaborate across disciplines as appropriate.
Qualifications
Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent) by time of appointment. The disciplinary area is open, but candidates must have a strong grounding in public policy analysis within their discipline.
