POSITION INFORMATION: Supervisor: ELA Curriculum Leader Employment Period: 12 months Employment Status: Full-time Pay Grade: G-217 Hiring Range: Commensurate with experience Start Date: Immediately
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for developing, monitoring, and modeling curriculum and resources for language arts instruction, grades K- 5. Responsible for collaborating with the Language Arts department, school-based staff, and literacy personnel to promote the Hampton City Schools instructional model and research-based best practices for literacy and language arts. Collaborate with Language Arts Department staff to plan, coordinate, and conduct staff development for teachers and administrators. Model classroom management techniques and effective instructional strategies in elementary school classrooms. Collaborates with and provides support for Reading Specialists and other literacy staff. Develop curriculum, learning plans, pacing guides, assessments, and instructional resources that align with current Virginia Standards of Learning, grades K-5, under the supervision of the Curriculum Leader for Elementary Language Arts. Disaggregate and analyze data to direct decision-making in the Language Arts Department. Monitor the Virginia Standards of Learning and Virginia Standards of Accreditation to assure compliance with requirements. Support building administrators and literacy teams by conducting instructional walkthroughs and planning next steps (grades K-5). Maintain up-to-date information on current state and national educational developments. Proficient with Google Suites. Perform other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS: Teaching License with a PK-6 endorsement. Master’s degree in Reading, content area, Curriculum & Instruction, and/or Administration & Supervision preferred. Minimum of three years of teaching experience in elementary language arts with a Master's degree or minimum of 5 years of teaching experience in elementary language arts with a Bachelor's degree. Experience with curriculum and assessment design preferred. Excellent organizational, planning and human relation skills. Ability to present engaging, accurate, and relevant material to diverse educational audiences. Ability to deliver clear, articulate and grammatically correct oral presentations as well as accurate and punctual written communications. Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of the Science of Reading and the instructional needs based on the five pillars of literacy. Demonstrate professionalism by working cooperatively with other staff members. Demonstrate an understanding of adult learning theory and learning communities. Demonstrate team and relationship-building practices with teachers. Demonstrate diplomacy in all interactions with the school community.
