About the Role

The New York Times is looking for a Staff iOS Engineer to join the Games New Products team to build the iOS app behind a new multiplayer game. NYT Games is behind the Crossword, Spelling Bee, Wordle, and more. We're a collaborative group that values inclusion, creativity, and building thoughtful, high-quality experiences. This is a hybrid role based in NYC, typically in-office two days a week. You'll report to the Engineering Manager, NYT Games - New Products. Responsibilities

Lead app architecture and feature development using modern iOS tools Collaborate with backend and product teams on design and delivery Mentor other engineers and contribute to iOS best practices Support a team culture grounded in NYT's mission and values Basic Qualifications

7+ years of iOS development experience 1+ years as a tech lead on complex apps Proficient in Swift, SwiftUI, and Structured Concurrency Experience with REST/GraphQL, testing, SQLite, and dependency injection Comfortable working in Agile teams and large codebases Preferred Qualifications

Experience in game development would be desirable, but not required. #LI-Hybrid (REQ-018839) The annual base pay range for this role is between:

$165,000 - $175,000 USD EEO and Accessibility
