Manager Of Respiratory - Full Time

Shift: 8:00am - 4:30pm, Exempt Role. Job Description: Patient Population: The patient population served can be all patients including geriatric, adult, adolescent, pediatric, and newborn. This also includes services which affect facility staff, physicians, visitors, vendors and the general public. Position Summary: Under the direction of the Vice President of Quality Regulatory and Compliance in consultation with the Medical Director, the Manager of Respiratory Care Services performs professional duties involved in a variety of technical procedures to provide respiratory care to the patients of Sierra View Medical Center, which requires the use of advanced Practitioner skills to intervene in complex patient care situations, with latitude for independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative within the scope of practice as defined by the State of California Respiratory Care Board, SVMC Hospital-wide Policy, SVMC Nursing Services Policy and Procedure and SVMC RCS Policy and Procedure on the order of a person lawfully authorized to give such order, or the initiation of emergency procedures. Responsible for patient care, comfort of the patients served. Leadership Responsibilities: The participant integrates their department's services with the Hospital's primary functions and overall plan for care delivery and other departments. The participant develops and reviews house-wide and unit specific policies and where appropriate, coordinates policies with other primary functions and/or departments annually. The participant achieves and documents desired staffing to patient ratios within targeted goals. The participant determines the qualifications and competence of department personnel who provide patient care services and who are not licensed independent practitioners. The participant is involved directly and/or supports subordinate participation in the Employee Performance and Improvement process as measured by active participation in Quality Council activities annually, recommends capital equipment and physical space and resources appropriate to patient care needs and selects, orients, evaluates performance and competency of outside contractors and vendor services. Must be able to work normal/scheduled working hours to include Holidays, call-backs, weeknights, weekends, and on-call. Agrees to participate, as directed, in emergencies and community disasters during scheduled and unscheduled hours. As a designated disaster service worker you are required to assist in times of need pursuant to the California Emergency Services Act. Your position has been defined as exempt (Exempt employees are paid on a salary basis as their duties may include more complex tasks that require them to work inconsistent or longer hours on a weekly basis. Exempt salaried employees also may be obligated to work as many hours as required to fulfill their responsibilities.) therefore you may have the ability to work remote as long as your VP has given prior approval. Education/Training/Experience: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Must have four years of experience in an RCP or Lead role and a bachelor's degree in a related field OR obtained within 1 year of hire. A national certification in a related field is also required and will be determined by the respective Vice President within 90 days of acceptance of the position. The time frame for completion of the certification will also be determined by the Vice President once certification has been chosen. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence if required. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages if required. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. To perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic computer skills. Licensure/Certifications: Must have and maintain current licensure as an RCP in the state of California. Must have and maintain current BLS certification or obtain within orientation process, prior to hands-on patient care. Must have and maintain NRP certification or obtain within six (6) months of assignment to department. Responsibilities and Essential Functions: Is responsible for ensuring that all individuals in the department who are responsible for the assessment, treatment or care of patients are competent to deliver services appropriate to the ages of the patients served. Provides leadership and management to the staff both on a daily basis and on a long term basis. Communicates with medical staff, personnel, administration and other medical professionals in resolving problems, promoting harmonious relationships between Hospital departments. Demonstrates strong technical knowledge in managing and implementing new techniques, tests test systems, programs, services, etc., and stays informed of current developments. Recommends, develops, and interprets policies and procedures; and adheres to and supports Hospital policies, philosophy and mission. Performs all Respiratory Care Practitioner duties. Coordinates all Administrative activities records. Assists VP of Quality Regulatory and Compliance to prepare fiscal and capital budgets. Provides leadership and support while fostering effective communications in meeting patient needs. Delegates appropriate administrative duties to other members of the Respiratory Care Services Staff. Documents, when necessary, any variations that may occur within established routines and resolves pertinent issues through department quality assurance program. Implements a management reporting system to account to the VP of Quality Regulatory and compliance. Develops, establishes, and conducts performance appraisals for the RCP staff. Remains current on the advances of clinical and managerial practice. Serves as a professional role model of Respiratory practice and education for the resolution of clinical practice problems as appropriate. Facilitates/provides orientation of new staff to clinical setting, serving as mentor to preceptors and staff. Is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, inservices, onboarding and evaluating education programs which facilitate the competence of the Respiratory Care Services staff, Nursing staff and Physicians. May assume additional responsibilities as designated by the VP of Quality Regulatory and Compliance or the Medical Director. Actively participates in achieving and maintaining department compliance with all state, federal and third party regulatory agency standards. Is accountable for maintaining your department at "Survey Ready" status at all times.
