Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role for a Data Scientist located in Norfolk, VA. The Data Scientist will be responsible for analyzing complex datasets to derive actionable insights, creating data visualizations, developing predictive models, and conducting statistical analyses. The Data Scientist will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to support change management initiatives using data-driven strategies.
Qualifications
Degree in Data Science, AI, Computer Science, Math, Engineering, or related field
(or 4 years of relevant professional experience within the last 5 years)
Recent experience (within 4 years) in a data science, AI/ML engineering, or similar technical role
Proficient in Python, R, SQL, and modern software development practices
Hands-on with machine learning tools/frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn
Experience building and maintaining data science workflows and pipelines
Skilled in data visualization using tools like Tableau, Power BI, or Kibana
Knowledge of data security and privacy, especially in sensitive or defense environments
Experience delivering technical training in data science and AI
Public portfolio of past work (e.g., GitLab or similar)
Comfortable working in cloud platforms (Azure, AWS)
Background working in international, mixed military-civilian teams
Strong communication and presentation skills
Involvement in AI/data outreach (academia, industry, hackathons, etc.)
Familiarity with NATO processes, structure, and organizational culture
Preferred Skills
Experience in big data ecosystems (e.g., Spark, Databricks)
Use of open-source and public datasets in applied projects
Strong data storytellingable to communicate insights to non-technical audiences
Military staff experience or exposure to federated learning models
Deep understanding of NATOs organizational functions
Experience with agile project management methods and tools
Additional languages, especially from NATO member or partner countries
Eligible for NATO security clearance; past experience with classified data is a plus
