The Director of Underwriting will oversee underwriting operations for an extended warranty company across multiple product lines, including Auto Warranty, Specialty Equipment, Consumer Goods, and Furniture Warranty (US and Canada). This role is responsible for managing insurance carrier relationships, setting and maintaining underwriting standards, developing pricing strategies, and ensuring profitability through effective risk management. The Director will also provide underwriting expertise to support product development, new business opportunities, and corporate initiatives while ensuring alignment with the company’s risk appetite and growth objectives. Key Responsibilities:

Carrier & Partner Management

Build and maintain strong relationships with insurance carriers, agents, and strategic business partners. Provide guidance and corrective actions to improve program performance.

Product Development & Pricing

Lead pricing analysis to ensure products are competitive and profitable. Approve new product launches and enhancements, providing actuarial and technical expertise. Develop pricing models, rating tables, and algorithms consistent with corporate risk appetite.

Underwriting Oversight

Maintain underwriting guidelines, risk selection standards, and reserves methodology. Monitor program performance through regular loss ratio and actuarial reviews. Perform underwriting for new and renewal business to ensure profitability and compliance with corporate thresholds.

Risk Management & Analytics

Track and analyze program performance versus expected results; recommend and implement adjustments. Provide regular account and claims reviews with actionable recommendations to improve results. Support SIU, Sales, Structured Solutions, and other departments with underwriting assessments and data analysis.

New Business Development Support

Partner with executive and business unit leadership to structure competitive programs for new dealers and agents. Conduct pricing and program structure analyses, including profit-sharing and risk-retention alternatives. Develop pricing ladders and proposals for OEM RFPs and new business opportunities.

Corporate Support

Provide underwriting, actuarial, and insurance expertise to support legal, market analysis, client profitability, and carrier evaluations. Collaborate cross-functionally to align underwriting strategies with broader organizational goals.
