Job Summary T.Y. Lin International has a position available for Civil Engineering Designer - Bikeways to take an active role in significantly enhancing the City of Chicago’s bicycle network. TYLI is responsible for providing in-house engineering and planning staff to the City of Chicago’s Department of Transportation (CDOT) Bicycle Program. The CDOT Bicycle Program involves a collaborative team that works closely together. Individual drive and passion to improve accommodations for people bicycling is essential. Responsibilities & Qualifications RESPONSIBILITIES: Prepare bicycle facility engineering design plans, specifications, and cost estimates

Act as the quality control engineer for bicycle facility plan review

Coordinate with City staff and other agencies to ensure bicycle facility designs are incorporated into all types of projects

Coordinate with Illinois DOT on federal and state funded projects

Manage federally funded Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) design contracts

Work with elected and appointed officials and community groups to resolve planning and design issues with bicycle facilities.

Communicate bicycle guidelines, policy, standards, and requirements with residents, elected and appointed officials, and other professionals.

Recommend city design guidelines and policy changes related to bicycle issues.

Ability to understand traffic signal phasing and make recommendations to improve bicycle and pedestrian operations.

Analyze and prepare traffic impact and parking studies.

Perform intersection capacity analyses using Synchro traffic modeling software.

Collect data and perform field observations at project sites throughout Chicago.

Supervise seasonal and part-time staff.

QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering

0-3 years of relevant experience

Experience with MicroStation (or equivalent CAD software)

required

ExperiencewithSynchro,AutoTURN,andArcMap

preferred

Knowledge of leading national design trends for urban on-street bikeways and complete streets principles, including NACTO design guides

ExperiencepreparingandmanagingIDOTPhaseIStudiesandPhaseIIDesign

preferred

Strong interest and experience in bicycling for transportation

Experienceinthedesignof bicyclefacilities and redesigningconstrained rights-of-wayto accommodate non-motorized transportation

preferred

Proven ability to undertake several complex assignments simultaneously

Ability to effectively communicate both in writing and verbally with decision makers at all levels

Additional Information TYLin is committed to pay equity. As part of that commitment, we have provided the base compensation range of $60,000 - $90,000 annually for this position and local market.
