As an Operations Engineer for Starlink, you will support processes that enable rapid development of hardware-in-the-loop (HITL/HIL) testbeds, which are critical for testing Starlink software and hardware. You will work with a multidisciplinary team on projects such as improving testbed build processes, creating analytics to provide insights on the test fleet, optimizing testbed usage, creating long-term hardware management solutions, and designing facility upgrades. You will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to provide a highly effective, user-friendly integrated test platform. RESPONSIBILITIES: Streamline test system build processes by identifying and resolving pain points and bottlenecks Create novel systems to optimize uptime of critical test systems and minimize operational burden Develop analytics to track test hardware relevance to current production/on-orbit fleet Provide insight on end-user experience by analyzing usage and performance of test systems Coordinate with production operations and assembly teams to ensure a steady flow of SpaceX-produced hardware for test system builds and long-term operation Create automation for materials and inventory management used across the team Plan and execute capital equipment, machine, building/infrastructure, and facility layout upgrades to meet operational and safety requirements Train Test Specialists and Engineers on best operations practices by hosting process improvement workshops, developing clear documentation, and demonstrating solutions BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline Experience with CAD software, SQL, business intelligence tools (e.g., PowerBI, Grafana), or analysis tools (Python/R, Arena, Minitab) PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: 1+ years of professional or internship experience in operations/supply chain/materials management or logistics 2+ years of experience with SQL, BI/data analysis tools (Power BI, Grafana, Excel), software development tools (Python, Linux) or discrete event modeling tools Experience as an industrial, operations, quality, process, or manufacturing engineer in a manufacturing environment Demonstrated experience with CAD and factory layouts Proficiency with statistics, data analysis, cost/benefit analysis, and visualization Experience with inventory, production, and capacity planning (including MRP/ERP systems) Ability to identify system enhancement opportunities, understand end-user requirements, and translate them into design requirements Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment with a drive for continuous improvement Creative problem solving, strong analytical skills and engineering fundamentals Strong communication skills and the ability to present to engineering teams, internal customers, and leadership ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Willing to work extended hours and weekends as needed for mission-critical deadlines Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills, enthusiasm for innovation, and commitment to improving reliability in cutting-edge technology COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Pay range: Operations Engineer/Level I: $95,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year Operations Engineer/Level II: $110,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related knowledge, education, and experience. Base salary is one part of the total rewards package at SpaceX, which may include long-term incentives, stock options, discretionary bonuses, and the ability to purchase additional stock through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan. You will also have access to comprehensive medical, vision, and dental coverage, a 401(k) plan, disability and life insurance, paid parental leave, and various other perks. You may accrue three weeks of paid vacation and will be eligible for 10 or more paid holidays per year. Exempt employees are eligible for five days of sick leave per year.
