Seeking a motivated and technically proficient Director of Engineering – Electrical. This leadership role will focus on the design and execution of high-voltage substations and switchyards, transmission lines, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and industrial power system distribution projects.
The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise, strong project management capabilities, and a passion for mentorship, while ensuring consistent engineering practices and building trusted relationships with clients.
Key Responsibilities
Sales & Client Engagement
Represent at trade shows, conferences, and industry events Build and maintain strong relationships with both existing and prospective customers. Support estimating team with scope, budgeting, scheduling, and contracting. Prepare technical proposals, scopes of work, and client-focused presentations. Provide technical support during client engagements alongside account managers. Project Management & Execution
Act as liaison between Estimating, Project Management Office (PMO), and Design teams. Lead internal project kickoff meetings and coordinate across disciplines Oversee engineering execution from contract award through project delivery, ensuring: Adherence to deliverables and customer expectations Engineering budget and schedule are tracked and managed Provide technical assistance and training to junior engineers. Participate in hiring and candidate evaluations for the engineering team. Conduct annual performance reviews and salary recommendations for direct reports. Engineer of Record (EOR) Duties
Serve as EOR for projects until qualified PEs are onboarded. Stamp all Issued-for-Construction (IFC) drawings generated by the team. Oversee QA/QC processes; once licensed engineers are onboard, shift to an oversight role. Support EITs on the team as they progress toward licensure. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems focus preferred) PE license (Professional Engineer) – Required 10–20+ years of experience in electrical engineering with a focus on HV substation design Deep understanding of:
Protection & Control (P&C) Bus configurations, grounding, and lightning protection SCADA, RTU, and communication systems
Proficiency in:
AutoCAD ETAP, SKM, CYME, PSCAD (or similar)
Knowledge of industry standards: NESC, NEC, IEEE, ANSI, and various utility standards Experience with BESS and renewable energy systems – Preferred Familiarity with industrial power distribution – Preferred Ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders Willingness to travel for site visits, client meetings, and industry events
