Under general supervision, oversee and participate in the work of a survey section. Essential Functions: Serves as lead person and oversees a survey crew; Experience running a survey field crew; Follows and gives instructions; Coordinates work assignments and reviews the work of the survey crew; Trains employees in crew requirements and procedures; Serves as lead worker or acknowledged expert who resolves more difficult problems; Utilizes modern survey equipment and software applications during the collection of survey field data; Performs complex field survey work; Calculates distances, locations, and angles and related measurements using standard formulas and methods; Instructs safe methods and procedures of work and ensures proper safety procedures are used; Maintains and monitors supplies, materials, and equipment; Requisitions needed materials and equipment; Performs difficult public contact work for the crew; Recommends methods and materials for completion of survey work; maintains field notes and draws diagrams for surveyor's review; Maintains records and prepares reports; Understanding of construction plans, survey computations, easement plats, and subdivision plats; Understands cut sheets; Ability and understanding to perform a topographic survey and construction staking; Additional Responsibilities:
May perform related work as required or as delegated by supervisor. Qualifications
Training and Experience: Four years of progressively responsible experience in sub-professional engineering and field survey work. Must have at least one year of running a survey field crew. Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of the methods, techniques, and equipment used in field surveying and related work; Thorough knowledge of the computations used in field surveying and related work; Skilled in the operation and care of surveying instruments; Skilled in performing trigonometry computations of angles, areas, distances, and traverses; Thorough ability to work with total station, GPS units/receiver, data collectors, and levels; Use of survey pro on data collectors; Ability to follow and give instructions based upon established procedures given by written and oral direction; Ability to assist in the training and overseeing field personnel; Thorough ability to read/understand construction plans; Ability to maintain accurate and complete engineering/survey records and notes; Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions; Must be able to perform tasks and solve problems with a high degree of independence; Basic Microsoft office suite computer skills; SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Must possess a valid Driver's License issued by the state in which employee resides. Pursuant to MSD's 'Substance Abuse Policy and Procedures,' this position has been designated as safety sensitive and candidate must pass a Non-D.O.T. Drug Test for this position.
