Overview
Senior Electrical Engineer - Substation (Minneapolis) at Burns & McDonnell. Responsible for oversight of substation engineering and consulting services for clients across the US and internationally, including leading others in creating electrical protection & control and/or physical layout design deliverables. Projects range in size, complexity, and voltage class from small distribution equipment upgrades to large transmission projects. This position can influence the future of the resiliency and reliability of the electric grid. Opportunities to advance into leadership/management roles are available. Responsibilities
Lead in preparation of proposals and scope development, including conceptual designs and execution plans. Prepare engineering/project cost estimates and schedules. Lead the execution of engineering activities including physical substation design (yard layouts, plans, sections, grounding, lightning protection, control building arrangements, raceways, power systems, and associated bills of material). Lead protection and control design (panel arrangements, one lines/single lines, three lines, AC schematics, DC elementaries, equipment wiring and relay wiring). Perform calculations for studies and reports (grounding, lightning protection, AC/DC load studies, etc.). Prepare equipment specifications for procurement and/or factory acceptance testing. Coordinate design activities with other departments (Civil/Structural, Networks, Transmission Line, etc.). Develop and improve processes, tools, and technology implementations. Provide leadership, training and mentoring to less experienced engineers and team members. Regularly meet and correspond with clients or outside personnel. Perform quality reviews for other engineers and designers. Provide short-term field support during construction. Support business development and marketing initiatives. Other areas of involvement may include relay settings, 3D modeling/design, or industry/professional technical committee involvement. Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related degree from an ABET-accredited program and 7 years electrical engineering experience. EPC project experience preferred. (Required or) Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or related Engineering Technology from ABET-accredited program and successful FE exam and 7 years electrical engineering experience. EPC project experience preferred. (Required or) Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering and 6 years electrical engineering experience. EPC project experience preferred. (Required) Expert knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures. Strong knowledge of electrical equipment design ANSI and IEEE Standards. Strong computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite). Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experience leading discipline design for large projects and delegating work tasks to team members. Ability to lead execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment. Demonstrated critical thinking, methodical and analytical problem-solving abilities. Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills. Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications. Ability to travel. Professional Engineer (PE) License Preferred. Compensation
$150,000.00-205,000.00 Yearly The expected compensation range is displayed in compliance with local/state regulations and is based on factors including education, qualifications, experience, and location. The total annual compensation package includes base salary and eligibility for a discretionary year-end incentive bonus program. Benefits
