Sr. Electrical Engineer - Power Electronics
This role focuses on the design, analysis, and validation of electronic control assemblies for Brushless DC and induction motors in Aerospace and Defense programs. The position requires deep expertise in Power Electronics and Motor Control Systems to advance next-generation aircraft cargo handling and actuation systems.
What you will be doing
Technical lead for electronic circuit development, collaborating with systems engineering, mechanical design, embedded software, manufacturing, and external certification to deliver compliant, robust, and manufacturable solutions
Lead development of electronic system architectures and detailed circuit designs in accordance with customer requirements, RTCA/DO-160, MIL-STD, and internal design standards
Generate and maintain system specifications, detailed schematics, design analyses, and circuit justification reports to support design reviews, compliance audits, and airworthiness certification
Develop and execute qualification, functional, and environmental test plans to verify design integrity and compliance
Perform hardware/software integration, functional verification, and troubleshooting across prototype and production configurations
Design for both low- and high-voltage aerospace applications, including 28 VDC, 270 VDC, and 115V–400Hz AC systems
Apply deep knowledge of power stage design, gate drivers, protection circuitry, and motor control theory, including sensorless and Hall-effect-based commutation strategies
Support thermal management and packaging solutions to meet harsh environmental conditions and mission duration requirements
Utilize electronic design tools: Altium Designer, PSPICE, and MATLAB/Simulink for schematic capture, simulation, and analysis
Collaborate with embedded software developers and system engineers to define control interfaces, communication protocols (CAN bus, RS-485), and diagnostics
Ensure compliance with IPC-A-610 Class 3 and other aerospace quality and workmanship standards
Participate in formal design reviews, configuration control processes, and risk assessments in accordance with AS9100
What you need to qualify
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (with emphasis on Power Electronics preferred); Master’s degree or equivalent defense/aerospace experience is a plus
10+ years of hands-on experience in electronics design and validation, ideally within an AS9100 or MIL-STD-810 environment
Expertise in motor drive design, including control of BLDC and/or induction motors for aerospace or defense application
Proven experience supporting product certification, compliance testing, and technical documentation in regulated industries
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to lead root cause investigations and implement effective corrective actions
Proficiency with PSPICE, Altium Designer, MATLAB, LabVIEW, or equivalent tools
Familiarity with embedded firmware (C/C++) and DSP/FPGA integration is preferred
Knowledge of EMI/EMC mitigation strategies and aerospace environmental standards (DO-160, MIL-STD-461, -704, -1275)
Willingness to travel occasionally to support program reviews, testing, and supplier integration activities
Demonstrated accountability, ownership of schedules, and strong attention to detail in documentation
