Overview

Senior Civil Engineer (PE) - Federal Civil, Virginia Beach, VA. This is a full-time position with Clark Nexsen, a JMT Company. Clark Nexsen is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer III to perform and direct civil engineering duties on multi-discipline building design projects of moderate to large scope, including projects that involve only civil engineering. Federal project experience—specifically NAFAC and DOD work—is highly desirable. Responsibilities

Perform civil engineering duties as a Senior Civil Engineer, including analysis and design of utilities, roadways, site grading, stormwater management, erosion control, and site plan preparation. Supervise and direct the work of Civil Engineers and EI/EITs assigned to the project. Coordinate with other design disciplines; manage the production of contract documents; and meet project budget and schedule requirements. Concurrently lead several projects of moderate complexity and scope as required by schedule and/or resource constraints. Meet with clients to prepare and/or validate proposed scope of services. Manage the Civil portion of multi-discipline projects and work with assigned Project Managers to meet project budget, schedule, goals, and objectives. Coordinate, supervise, and communicate all aspects of the Civil design within multi-discipline teams to ensure integration with other disciplines. Communicate with the Contractor on Design-Build projects to verify suitability of systems and materials selected. Manage and supervise Civil support services during the bidding process, including preparing addenda and amendments and opening and tabulating bids. Manage and supervise Civil support services during the construction phase, including field visits, RFIs, shop drawings reviews, and preparing record drawings. Ensure staff compliance with quality control policies and procedures. Work with and take direction from Managing Principals, Project Managers, Design Managers, Operations Directors, and senior management. Assist in presenting projects to clients, contractors, project team members, authorities having jurisdiction, and the public through all stages of the project. Actively support company marketing and business development activities. Establish and maintain positive client relationships. Provide technical guidance to Civil staff and mentor junior staff. Assist Department Director and Department Head in developing new and/or revised processes and procedures. Represent the Department Head when unavailable. Lead staff training sessions and provide input to the Department Head on staff annual performance reviews. Required Skills

Must be a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in at least one U.S. state, preferably in the local jurisdiction. NCEES record preferred for reciprocal licensure. Understanding of sustainable design principles; LEED AP preferred. Additional certifications (e.g., CFM, CDT, CCS, or CCCA) encouraged. Active involvement in professional organizations like NSPE or ASCE is desirable. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Effective presentation skills. Proactive and collaborative attitude with a commitment to quality service and continuous professional growth. Ability to mentor junior staff and lead by example. Required Experience

Graduation from an ABET-accredited 4-, 5-, or 6-year engineering program in Civil Engineering or related disciplines: Civil Engineering; Civil and Environmental Engineering; Civil, Environmental and Infrastructure Engineering; Civil Engineering Technology. A post-graduate degree in Civil Engineering or a related field may be given additional consideration. Ability to utilize current company software for word processing, e-mail, accounting, and information management. Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D and stormwater modeling programs (e.g., PCSWMM, PondPack, SewerGEMS) is advantageous. Familiarity with design and production software to understand capabilities and limitations. Minimum of 15 years of progressive civil engineering design experience in a leadership role within a Civil or multi-discipline A/E firm. Proven experience working on federal projects, especially for NAFAC and DOD clients, is required. Experience as a lead designer or civil engineer in federal, state, municipal, healthcare, commercial, or higher education projects; experience with Design/Build and CM-at-Risk project delivery methods is desirable. Working Conditions
