Overview
IAT Insurance Group has an opportunity for a Senior Underwriter to join our Contract Binding team to achieve profitable growth within the company's risk profile while maintaining an acceptable loss ratio with our delegated authority wholesale agents. The ideal candidate will have at least five years of experience as a commercial P&C underwriter managing (growing) a book of at least $5-10 million in written premium. Excess and Surplus Lines experience is highly preferred. This role works a hybrid schedule from the Scottsdale, Arizona location. The hybrid schedule requires working from the office Monday through Wednesday, with the option of working Thursday and Friday remotely. Location: AZ - Scottsdale, 8605 East Raintree Drive, Scottsdale, AZ 85260, USA.
Responsibilities
Evaluates information to determine risk acceptability in accordance with company guidelines.
Makes appropriate decisions based on evaluation of underwriting information.
Conducting agency marketing visits with our wholesale partners at least twice a year.
Performs active agency management of their assigned territory.
Effectively communicates and negotiates underwriting and pricing decisions to achieve optimal outcomes.
Acts with a sense of urgency on all inquiries/requests.
Builds effective working relationships with assigned agency personnel as well as internal company staff.
Drives acceptable levels of new business opportunities through effective marketing to assigned agents.
Completes file audits within company guidelines to ensure compliance to underwriting and pricing standards where agents are delegated underwriting authority.
Attends agency conferences and conducts seminars and breakout sessions.
Participates and leads special projects as assigned.
Handles a moderate number of agency assignments.
Participates in annual planning meetings with assigned agents.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Must Have:
Bachelor’s Degree and 5 years of relevant commercial Property and Casualty underwriting experience or equivalent.
Relevant experience is non admitted and/or E&S underwriting experience.
Equivalent is defined as 6 years’ experience as a P&C Underwriter is considered equivalent experience.
Must have the ability to react and respond quickly and professionally.
Must provide creative, analytical, and innovative thinking to inure to productive problem-solving.
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
