OPPORTUNITY
Our client is a private investment firm that focuses on acquisitions and portfolio management for middle market enterprises. Since its founding in the early 2000s, our client has completed more than 50 acquisitions and currently boasts an asset portfolio that generates over $2B in sales per year.
This Controller opportunity is a high-visibility role within the organization, reporting directly to the executive leadership team and managing daily accounting functions for the enterprise. This role requires regular in-office presence due to the nature of relationship building in the investment space.
SCOPE OF WORK
Accounting & Cash Management
Maintain books and records using QuickBooks Online (QBO) Oversee bank reconciliations, vendor payments, Amex coding, and monthly closes Manage cash flow planning, owner distributions, and money market transfers Maintain chart of accounts, class structure, and financial reporting integrity
Management Fee Billing & Reimbursements
Prepare and track quarterly management fee invoices and collections Allocate and invoice shared expenses across portfolio companies and funds
Budgeting & Reporting
Lead annual and quarterly budget preparation for Argonne and aircraft entities Maintain forecast templates and analyze budget vs. actuals
Payroll & Compensation
Administer biweekly payroll and bonuses via Netchex Manage W-2 compensation tracking, partner allocations, and benefit deductions
Insurance & Risk
Renew D&O, property, and business interruption policies Manage vendor relationships and evaluate cost-saving opportunities
Tax Coordination
Support federal, state, and local filings with external tax advisors Review returns, authorize e-filings, and distribute K-1s and 1099s
Entity Registration
Maintain legal entity registry and file annual reports Oversee BOIR/CTA filings, registered agent renewals, and business license filings Manage entity formations, dissolutions, and related documentation
Maintain strong working relationship with Fund Administrator and Executive team. Recognize opportunities for automation and implement process improvement initiatives as needed. IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE Bachelor’s in accounting, finance, or a related field is required. Master’s and/or CPA preferred. 5+ years of progressive accounting experience with 2+ years leading core accounting functions Strong proficiency with accounting tools such as QuickBooks Online, CORPRO, Netchex, or similar. The ability to wear multiple hats, demonstrate a strong business acumen, and the ability to make executive presentations to C-Suite Executives and Board of Directors is required. Other skills including analytical thinking, sound judgment and decision making, integrity, confidentiality, initiative/drive, and attention to detail are required.
