BLUE ORIGIN
At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!
This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable.
As part of a small, hard-working, and accomplished team of experts, you will support all aspects of fluids analysis for various spaceflight systems. You will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of the systems through their entire lifetime from early conceptual design and configuration through flight operations and sustaining engineering. The responsibilities of this position will be analysis intensive, primarily supporting the development and verification of vehicle-level fluid models.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Thermal & fluid analysis of the launch vehicle system and its components to develop and verify design/qualification envelopes
Implementation of trajectory-driven and other convective heating environments during all phases of flight
Trade studies relating to subsystem design, architecture, and operation
Configuration development, detailed design, and verification activities
Documentation and maintenance of analysis inputs, models, and results in report and databooks
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
5+ years of proven track record in the fields of fluids, thermal, or thermodynamics
Experience with one or more fluid or thermal modeling tools is required (e.g., ANSYS Workbench, ANSYS Classic, SINDA/FLUINT, Thermal Desktop, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications:
Extensive experience with logic-heavy Thermal Desktop models
Knowledge of MATLAB, Python, C#, and/or Fortran
Familiarity with knowledge capture systems, integrated engineering tools and rapid development processes
Knowledge in the use of 3D CAD tools (CREO preferred)
Blue Origin is proud to be an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer and is committed to attracting, retaining, and developing a highly qualified and dedicated work force. Blue Origin hires and promotes people on the basis of their qualifications, performance, and abilities.
Don’t meet all desired requirements? Studies have shown that some people are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single desired qualification. At Blue Origin, we are dedicated to building an authentic workplace, so if you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every desired qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway.
