Manager, Automation and New Product Engineering Base pay range: $130,000.00/yr - $150,000.00/yr

General Description The Manager, Automation & New Product Engineering is responsible to diagnose mechanical and electrical problems, repair and rebuild equipment, oversee the entire mechanical design process, and assist as a technical expert on specialized new and design projects. The role works independently on various projects as assigned by the Director of Engineering.

Specific Responsibilities & Duties

Provide a safe working environment and ensure all Engineering personnel understand and adhere to Health, Safety and Environmental procedures, company safety rules, Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs), and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) at all times.

Interact with production staff to maintain efficiency on the lines. Communicate work priorities to all members of the technical team.

Write effective machine repair work orders, including technical information. Plan and schedule repair work.

Shift technical resource, identify training needs. Coach, train, and develop maintenance technicians and technical operators in repair, preventive and predictive maintenance principles.

Utilize production Work Orders to schedule and obtain information for line set-ups and equipment maintenance.

Troubleshoot and repair equipment, mechanical and electrical aspects. Able to read electrical schematics and diagrams.

Execute preventive maintenance schedule. Write preventative maintenance plans and work orders and schedule as required.

Maintain housekeeping in conformance with current GMP and SOP standards.

Design, develop and implement automation systems to improve manufacturing efficiency, quality and safety.

Program, troubleshoot and maintain Allen Bradley PLCs, Panasonic PLCs, HMIs and SCADA systems.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams including production, maintenance and continuous improvement leaders to identify automation opportunities.

Manage automation projects from concept through commissioning and validation.

Develop and maintain documentation including electrical schematics, control narratives and SOPs.

Provide technical leadership and mentorship to maintenance mechanics.

Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends in automation and controls.

Demonstrate functional and operational knowledge of PLCs and related control software.

Shift resource for machine technical information and communicate shift priorities to the technical team.

Perform on-the-job and classroom training to achieve a fully cross-trained technical group.

Work on several concurrent projects and be recognized as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) within the Mechanical Engineering Discipline.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to stand for long periods of time.

Must be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds.

Qualifications

High school education or equivalent.

BSc in Electrical Engineering.

8+ years’ experience in Engineering Management role; preferably in cosmetics, food or pharmaceutical process manufacturing or an FDA-regulated industry.

5+ years of mechanical/electrical experience in a high-speed consumer packaging environment; preferably in cosmetics, food or pharmaceutical process manufacturing or an FDA-regulated industry.

Familiar with fillers, labelers, ink jet coders, laser coders, PLCs. Familiar with equipment such as Pacific 18 head Rotary Fillers, Cartoners, Pack West Cappers, Kalish Fillers, Accrapply Labelers, Sherwood Labeler, Rotary Labeler, Biner Ellison, Video Jet Coders, Norden Servo Tube Fillers, MRM Filler, Shrink Wrappers, 3M case sealer, Axon Heat Tunnels, and New England bottle unscrambler.

Must supply own hand tools as pertaining to job requirements.

Strong English communications skills: speaking, reading, and writing.

Strong math and analytical skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

Advanced PC knowledge (MS Office Suite: Excel, Word, Outlook) preferred.

Ability to work independently and as a team player.

Flexibility to work special schedules as required by job demands.

Self-management with initiative and strong organizational and planning skills.
