Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight! This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle designed to carry people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar space, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable. As a technical designer working closely with a team of engineers, you will support the design, analysis, development and testing of primary and secondary structures for the New Glenn second stage. You will contribute to the team’s impact on all aspects of the product lifecycle, develop conceptual designs, participate in design reviews, conduct trade studies, fabricate hardware, and execute tests. Under supervision, you will advance designs to release maturity through detailed design, drafting, and drawing creation. You will coordinate design updates and maintain schedules and plans. You will collaborate with multi-functional teams to procure, fabricate, test, and fly the hardware you helped craft. You will be part of a small, hardworking, passionate and accomplished team responsible for the design, drafting, development, testing, and qualification of structural subsystems for New Glenn’s second stage and payload accommodations team. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and requires dedicated commitment and attention to safe and repeatable spaceflight. We are looking for someone to apply technical expertise, leadership, and a commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. A passion for our mission and vision is required. Responsibilities & Qualifications
Design, develop, and test primary and secondary metallic and composite structures Create 3D models, detail part drawings, assemblies, installations, and interface control documents Support configuration development, run trade studies, and develop concepts Experience with Creo (Pro/E), CATIA, Wildfire 5 or greater, Windchill 10 Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (ASME Y14.5) practices Familiarity with ASME Y14.100 and Y14.41 Create and manage product tree structures in CAD Understanding of design fundamentals and material and process practices Provide guidance and on-site support for manufacturing, production, and integration activities Coach, mentor and technically assist others Takes ownership of work and is passionate about the mission Able to keep up in a fast-paced environment while maintaining the highest quality Highly organized with excellent technical, written, and verbal communication skills Ability to earn trust, maintain positive relationships, and collaborate effectively Minimum of 6 years of experience with aircraft, spacecraft, or launch vehicle structures Preferred Qualifications
Previous professional experience in developmental projects and/or operational environments with safety-critical hardware Create test plans, specifications, and other documentation for the development of flight hardware Understanding or familiarity with basic engineering disciplines - mechanical, structural, pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, etc. Experience with rapid development techniques for hardware Familiarity with analysis codes: Nastran, ANSYS, Optistruct, Abaqus, HyperMesh, Hypersizer Compensation
Compensation Range for WA applicants is $38.18-$53.46 Other site ranges may differ Culture Statement
