National Experienced Workforce Solutions (NEW Solutions) . Location: Honolulu. Program: USGS. Wage/Hr: $85.00. Hours/Week: 20 hrs per week / Estimated 520 total hours. Responsibilities
The candidate will serve as a senior hydrologist developing groundwater models and providing technical guidance on groundwater systems across Hawaii and the US Affiliated Pacific Island (USAPI). Mentoring and staff development: mentor junior staff in Pacific island hydrogeology principles and provide guidance to the Studies Sections; train staff on Hawaiian volcanic aquifer systems and USAPI atoll environments; develop technical competencies in groundwater modeling across the region. Groundwater modeling and analysis: develop groundwater models using MODFLOW and SUTRA to support water availability and security assessments across Hawaii and USAPI island systems; model freshwater lens dynamics for island and atoll environments; contribute to water budget analyses and create groundwater monitoring and data visualization tools. Stakeholder advisory and technical reviewer: coordinate with local water utilities and government agencies across Hawaii and USAPI; review data releases, scientific reports, and groundwater studies; present findings at scientific conferences; develop standardized regional procedures; ensure technical reviews meet professional standards. Scientific publication and data release: contribute to USGS Scientific Investigation Reports documenting groundwater modeling results and hydrogeologic assessments across Hawaii and USAPI. Qualifications
Minimum of 30 years of experience in Geology/Hydrology OR PhD Degree in Geology/Hydrology OR training in MODFLOW, SUTRA, Geolog, and other related modeling tools and techniques. Experience with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Teams, MS Outlook. DOI/USGS Software (MODFLOW, SUTRA). ArcView (GIS). Other
