Our Calabasas, CA office has a Controls Engineering opportunity available. This position will provide project and controls engineering services to WM customers: direct design, programming, and testing and commissioning assignments.

Job Description This position is responsible for controls engineering project requirements:

Designs, develops, and implements control systems to meet integrated machine requirements and customer specifications. Selects appropriate hardware components, such as PLCs, I/O modules, communication devices, and operator interfaces, to meet system objectives

Develops control logic software and user interface applications for PLC, SCADA, and HMI. Scripted languages, HTML, graphics construction, implementation, and various control device configurations, database configuration

Creates PFDs, P&IDs, single line diagrams, cable and conduit schedules, instrumentation and control data sheets, and I/O lists

Develops electrical schematics and panel layouts for control cabinets and automation systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety regulations

Integrates various hardware components including sensors, actuators, motor drives, and instrumentation into control systems for seamless operation. This includes a strong understanding of setting up industrial networking protocols

Diagnoses and resolves technical issues related to SCADA, HMI, and PLC systems through systematic troubleshooting. Provide technical support and assistance to clients during system startup, operation, and maintenance phases

Understands aspects of deploying automation systems in IT-based environments. This consists of server/client virtualization, managed networks and cybersecurity, and domain authentication

Performs commissioning and start-up activities for integrated systems and the development of technical documentation. Serves as company engineering interface with the customer during the implementation phase of the project

May act as lead on some projects, interfacing directly with clients and provide guidance to junior level engineers

Ensures compliance with all regulations, codes, etc. as they apply to the contract and project

Up to 25% domestic travel as needed and customary for the occupation

Job Requirements

Education: BS in Electrical or Chemical Engineering is preferred

Experience: 5-15 years in below areas is preferred

Proficiency in programming languages used in PLC programming (e.g., ladder logic, structured text) and HMI/SCADA software (e.g., AVEVA, Ignition, FactoryTalk, WinCC)

Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, Ethernet/IP, Profibus) and hardware interfaces

Experience with PLC design/programming and SCADA/HMI development software (e.g., Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View Studio, Ignition Perspective/Vision)

Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment

Strong communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with clients, vendors, and team members

Physical Demands of Position Seeing, color perception, hearing, listening, clear speech, dexterity in hands, driving, and ability to travel distances, basic climbing of ladders

Working Conditions Standard office environment, on-site office environment, and diverse industrial environments requiring use of PPE, frequent PC usage, fax machines, copy machines, phones, construction trailer environment. Ability to work long hours if necessary for start-ups and peak loads

Expected Salary range is 120,000 to 180,000 per year based on qualifications.
