NAE is the biggest gallery in the UK that is dedicated to artists and communities from the Global Ethnic Majority. We are a contemporary Art Gallery in the Heart of Hyson Green, a community just outside the city centre which is culturally rich and vibrant. We deliver a variety of exhibitions, artist residencies, public events, workshops, performances, festivals, neighbourhood programmes and young people initiatives.
This is an exciting time to join the New Art Exchange as the gallery is moving through a period of change with ambitious plans for growth and expansion.
As this role involves directly engaging with and platforming artists, communities, and audiences from the Global Ethnic Majority,
l ived experience of these communities, or substantial and meaningful experience working within and supporting them, is ESSENTIAL. The Role: NAE is looking for a new Associate Artistic Director to join an 18-month development programme aimed at cultivating Global Ethnic Majority leaders aspiring to senior roles in the arts and culture sector. This unique opportunity offers access to a £30,000 budget to shape and deliver an inspiring season of work aligned with NAE’s mission, values, and citizen-led approach. The selected candidate will work closely with NAE’s CEO/Artistic Director, Board, staff, and stakeholders to design a bold, inclusive programme for summer 2026, activating Hyson Green as a vibrant cultural hub. With a focus on platforming Global Ethnic Majority talent, this role includes commissioning artists, fostering partnerships, and building meaningful connections with local communities. Ideal for those aiming to become future Artistic Directors or senior leaders, this position provides a dynamic platform for creative vision and leadership development. Who are we looking for? We are seeking a passionate, early to mid-career cultural leader with a proven track record in delivering impactful cultural or community projects. The ideal candidate will be deeply committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, with a focus on amplifying Global Ethnic Majority voices. Strong project management skills, including budget oversight and stakeholder collaboration, are key. Familiarity with Nottingham’s cultural landscape and its communities is highly valued.
