many-particle systems, particularly macromolecules of
biological interest. - M. Karplus
Post-doctoral Position in Multiscale Simulations of Genome-Editing Systems
Date
2021-07-05 Location
Description
A post-doctoral position is available in the Palermo lab in the broad field of computational biophysics and Molecular Dynamics (MD) and Multiscale Methods.
Our lab masters computational methods based on MD, with applications to unravel the function and improve applications of key genome editing systems, including (but not limited to) the leading CRISPR-Cas9 system.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to employ and further develop state-of-the-art computational methods, from conventional MD to enhanced sampling methods, with the goal of understanding the mechanism and to improve the genome editing applications of CRISPR-Cas9. This research will also involve mixed quantum/classical (QM/MM) approaches and unconventional analysis methods based on graph-theory, as well as application of Markov State Models. Interest in the lab is also growing toward coarse grained methods. Therefore, applications from candidates holding expertise in coarse graining is welcome! The successful candidate will have the opportunity to join existing collaborations with leading experimental scientists in the CRISPR field at the University of Zurich and at the University of California Berkeley. She/he will also collaborate with NMR scientists at Brown University and with computational chemists at Yale University.
The University of California Riverside is a public research University belonging to the University of California system, located in the vibrant research area of southern California. The appointee will be employed in the Department of Bioengineering, receiving competitive salary and benefits, in agreement with the National Institutes of Health. The Riverside area in greater Los Angeles offers a high quality of life, with ideal weather, excellent schools, abundant outdoor recreation and affordable housing. The Palermo lab offers a warm and productive environment for young, aspiring scientists.
