to support the members at Ft. Detrick, Maryland. This position is contingent upon contract award. Incumbents are encouraged to apply! The salary range (or hiring range) for this exempt position has been established at:
$74,000 - $82,000 . The above salary range represents the company’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This job will be posted until filled or withdrawn. Responsibilities: The employee shall provide support in developing and using animal models to evaluate vaccines performing immunogenicity studies such as cellular/humoral immune responses using ELISA, flow cytometry and other immunological techniques. Will also provide support through assisting in the design and execution of protective efficacy studies for vaccines and therapeutics against infectious agents of the DoD interest. The employee shall conduct in vitro assays to evaluate viral replication in the context of vaccines and other medical countermeasure development. The employee will work in BSL-2, BSL-3 and BSL-4 laboratories and handle controlled substances thus must hold and maintain BPRP and CS-PRP status, IAW the provisions of this contract and applicable regulations. Serve as a BSL-2, BSL-3, and BSL-4 mentor. Serve as the suite supervisor for up to five (5) BSL-2 laboratories. Coordinate and collaborate with scientists within the Division and the Institute on in vivo and in vitro studies to evaluate medical countermeasures against infectious diseases. Use cell culture techniques to perform in vitro testing of candidate vaccines and therapeutic compounds against a variety of viruses. Conduct studies to evaluate viral vaccines for immunogenicity by measuring cellular/humoral immune responses using ELISA, flow cytometry and other immunological techniques. Perform basic and specialized molecular biology techniques including but not limited to: PCR, qRT-PCR, DNA preparations and purification, cloning, transformations, fluorescence in-situ Hybridization (FISH), flow cytometry, Western blot, IFAs, high content imaging, plaque assays, PRNTs, and other molecular biology techniques. Perform basic cell culture. Responsible for cryopreservation and thawing of cell lines. Present protocols and data generated at weekly virology meetings as required. Responsible for assessing and maintaining laboratory supplies in BSL-2, BSL-3 and BSL-4 laboratories. Perform technical literature searches and assist in the preparation of proposals, technical reports, and manuscripts for publication each year. Responsible for the accountability, management, safeguard, and storage of BSAT, animal tissue samples, and working stock samples. Assist with annual conduct of Equipment Inventory Management in BSL-2, BSL-3, and BSL-4. Provide the TPOC a PI Technical Report NLT the last working day of each month. CS-PRP enrollment is required and will be held and maintained IAW the provisions in this contract and all applicable regulations. BPRP enrollment is required and will be held and maintained IAW the provisions in this contract and all applicable regulations. Travel Requirements:
0 - 10% Job Requirements: Master’s degree with at least 2 years of related laboratory experience post-degree OR PhD degree in Biomedical Science, Microbiology or Virology. Ability to work under deadline pressure, handle stress and deliver professional results. Long hours and weekends may be required to meet deliverables. Strong written and oral communication skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail. Self-motivated with minimal oversight. Computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Some travel may be required. Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986. Must be a US citizen, per contract requirements.
