Overview
The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Department of Nutrition Sciences in the Schools of Health Professions and Medicine, is seeking a Director of the Nutrition and Obesity Research Center (NORC). This is a full-time, 12-month faculty appointment. Rank and tenure status will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. The Director will lead the promotion of Nutrition and Obesity research, direct the center’s enrichment program, recruit and mentor investigators, and oversee the collaborative research efforts of the center. A medical degree or a doctoral degree is required. Includes fringe benefits, retirement plan, healthcare benefits, and generous paid time off. The NORC Director will actively participate in the Department of Nutrition Sciences, chaired by Barbara A. Gower, PhD, with 25 full-time faculty and >100 staff, students, and postdoctoral fellows involved in basic, animal, physiological, clinical, and community-based research, patient care, and teaching. The department maintains a robust extramural funding portfolio, hosts two NIH-funded centers (the NORC and the Diabetes Research Center), and serves as a clinical center for the NIH Nutrition for Precision Health consortium. The department offers an undergraduate major and minor, multiple master’s degrees, a doctoral program, a dietetic internship, and directs three NIH-funded T-32 training programs. UAB is a flourishing urban university and medical center with research funding exceeding $715 million. Required Qualifications:

The Department of Nutrition Sciences, housed in the UAB School of Health Professions (SHP), has 25 full-time faculty members and more than 100 staff, students, and postdoctoral fellows involved in basic, animal, physiologic, clinical, and community-based research, patient care and teaching. The department has a robust portfolio of extramural research funding and hosts both the NIH-funded Nutrition Obesity Research Center (NORC) and the Diabetes Research Center (DRC).
