Chesapeake Bay Academy seeks a compassionate and visionary educational leader to serve as its Head of Middle School. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience working with students with learning disabilities and a strong record of mentoring and training faculty in best practices that support diverse learners. The Head of Middle School is responsible for cultivating a safe, inclusive, and academically challenging environment where students thrive both socially and academically. This leader will demonstrate deep expertise in evidence-based instructional strategies for students with learning differences, while also equipping faculty with the tools, resources, and professional development necessary to excel in meeting the needs of every learner. As a collaborative partner, the Head of Middle School will work closely with families, teachers, and administrators to build strong connections and ensure alignment between home and school. As an advocate, the Head will champion the strengths of students with learning disabilities and promote innovative approaches that unlock potential and build confidence. By blending leadership, empathy, and expertise, the Head of Middle School will play a pivotal role in advancing Chesapeake Bay Academy’s mission: empowering students who learn differently to achieve success in school and in life. A minimum of a master\'s degree and current teacher licensure are required. SPED preferred. Additional consideration will be given to candidates who have experience and/or training in working with neurodiverse students. Training such as Orton-Gillingham or similar programs a plus. Salary offer will be commensurate with experience. Qualifications

A Master\'s degree in Educational Leadership, Special Education, or a related field. Minimum of 3 years of experience in an educational leadership role, preferably as a division head, dean, or director. Demonstrated experience in a classroom setting, with direct experience teaching students with learning differences. Extensive knowledge of special education methodologies, including differentiated instruction, multi-sensory teaching, and individualized programming. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven ability to mentor new teachers and build strong relationships with students and parents. A collaborative spirit and a flexible mindset, with the ability to adapt to the evolving needs of a small school environment. Responsibilities

Faculty Leadership and Development Provide consistent, hands-on coaching and mentorship to a team of new and developing teachers. Conduct classroom observations and provide constructive feedback to improve instructional practices, particularly in differentiating instruction for students with learning differences. Lead professional development opportunities focused on effective teaching strategies, classroom management, and our school\'s mission. Facilitate regular department and staff meetings to foster collaboration, problem-solving, and professional growth. Academic and Programmatic Leadership Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of the Middle School curriculum, ensuring it aligns with our school\'s philosophy and student needs. Lead the instructional team in designing and implementing individualized learning plans (ILPs) for all middle school students. Stay current with best practices in special education and progressive education to ensure our program remains innovative and effective. Monitor student academic progress and social-emotional well-being, collaborating with teachers, parents, and support staff to ensure each student\'s success. Student and Parent Relations Serve as the primary point of contact for all Middle School parents, addressing their questions and concerns with empathy and a solutions-oriented approach. Work with students to foster a positive, supportive, and inclusive school culture. Oversee student discipline, using a restorative and educational approach that aligns with our school\'s values. Plan and lead parent information nights, conferences, and other community events. Administrative and Operational Duties Partner with the Head of School to lead faculty hiring, onboarding, and performance reviews for the Middle School. Manage the Middle School budget and resources effectively. Collaborate with the admissions office on prospective student visits, assessments, and enrollment decisions. Work with the school\'s leadership team to ensure a cohesive and positive school-wide culture.
