Spear Bio Inc.
Senior Scientist, Nucleic Acid Biochemistry
Spear Bio Inc., Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, United States
Spear Bio, founded in 2021, is a well-funded and rapidly growing start-up headquartered in Woburn, Massachusetts. Our proprietary technology, Successive Proximity Extension Amplification Reaction (SPEAR) , is anovel wash-free immunoassay platform, offering unprecedented sensitivity. We are dedicated to revolutionizing early disease diagnosis and monitoring by providing scalable, ultrasensitive solutions that deliver unparalleled accuracy in measuring low-abundant biomarkers, enabling clinicians and researchers to improve patient outcomes and advance global health.
Job Description:
In this newly created role, you will design and execute novel nucleic acid-based reaction cascades that enhance the performance of Spear's nucleic acid amplification-based immunoassays
You will achieve new capabilities like multiplexing or identifying different ways to detect a single target, build the appropriate platform, then transition to the appropriate cross-functional team to manage
You will work closely with the Assay Development and Workflow Automation teams to ensure the design and performance of new platforms align with the requirements of these teams, and respond to issues escalated by the Assay Development or Workflow Automation teams, requiring ongoing assimilation and observation of their data
You will be part of the company-wide troubleshooting taskforce and act as expert on quantitative, model-driven approaches to solve a wide variety of technical problems. This unique role will provide a rare view into all data generated within the company on an ongoing basis, looking for patterns and trends, and making connections to provide feedback on ways individual teams can enhance or accelerate performance. You will also get to troubleshoot unique and escalated issues that other teams cannot resolve
Requirements: PhD degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, chemical engineering or biophysics
Expertise in DNA biophysics, thermodynamics and kinetics of nucleic acid-related reactions such as folding, hybridization, and enzymatic processes (e.g., primer extension, ligation, cleavage)
Extensive knowledge of commercially available tools to synthesize, modify, conjugate, analyze, and sequence various types of nucleic acids
Extensive hands-on experience building novel, multi-step biochemical reaction networks/cascades for analytical and diagnostic purposes
Coding skills in MATLAB or Python sufficient for deterministic and stochastic modeling of biochemical reaction networks
Experience developing novel qPCR-like methods, quantitative isothermal amplification methods, proximity ligation assays, or proximity extension assays
Strong trouble-shooting skills with demonstrated track record of designing and executing quantitative, mechanism-revealing experiments for successful trouble-shooting
We offer competitive compensation, meaningful stock ownership, comprehensive benefits, and a great work environment. This is an opportunity to enter an innovative, high-growth startup at an early stage. We are focused on identifying candidates who have demonstrated leadership and excellence throughout their careers and are excited by the prospect of building an industry-leading company. Spear Bio Inc. provides equal opportunity in employment to all persons. No person shall be denied equal access because of race, creed, color, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, or physical/mental disability. Spear Bio does not accept blind resume submissions from external recruiting agencies.
