The Ranish Group at the Institute for Systems Biology is seeking a highly motivated Research Associate 3 to assist in one of two projects. The goal of project 1 is to elucidate the protein-protein interactions underlying transcriptional regulation by RNA polymerase II. To accomplish this goal, the lab is developing crosslinking-mass spectrometry-based technologies that can identity protein-protein interactions with residue-specific resolution, and also can detect changes in protein–protein interactions change. This information will be used to design cell-based and
in vitro
studies to understand how these protein-protein interactions impact transcription. The goal of the second project is to build transcriptional regulatory networks underlying erythropoiesis. For these studies we are taking a multi-disciplinary approach involving proteomics, transcriptomics, genomic and computational studies. For the proteomics studies, we are developing sensitive mass spectrometry-based assays to quantify key transcription factors during erythropoiesis. The successful applicant will be fully integrated into ongoing projects and will be expected to design, execute and troubleshoot experiments, and analyze results. Key responsibilities include Protein expression and purification Molecular biology and cell based assays Mass spectrometry sample preparation and analysis Discuss and present research at internal meetings Qualifications: B.Sc. in biomedical sciences (e.g., molecular/cellular biology or biochemistry) or related discipline with 4 or more years lab experience demonstrating advanced working knowledge of research principles. Strong interest in proteomics and gene regulation Ability to organize and prioritize work, work efficiently and carefully Strong verbal and written communication skills ISB is an affirmative action and equal opportunity employer.
