The University of Maryland, School of Pharmacy, Dean’s Administration is currently seeking a Director, Sponsored Research Development for a School in the Office of Research Administration to manage the financial and administrative aspects of grant and contract proposal submissions. The ideal candidate will work closely with faculty and researchers to ensure compliance with funding agency guidelines, manage proposal development, and provide strategic guidance throughout the proposal submission process. Function as a liaison between principal investigators (PIs), central administration, and funding agencies, the director will oversee complex, multi-investigator grants. The role also involves providing strategic guidance to departments, institutes, centers, and project PIs on research administration and compliance matters. The selected candidate will manage a wide range of finance and administrative functions in the area of research development for the School. Acts as an adviser to the senior management and manages a team of pre-award research staff. Provide strategic direction and leadership for professional education in sponsored research and developmental research administration activities for a school, that involves faculty members from all departments, collaboration across the professional schools at the University and campus units. Create a strategic plan and research administration development strategies for professional education and development as well as developing policies and procedures in order to ensure strategically consistent, cohesive, and effective programs. Supervise the research administration pre-award financial and administrative functions related to professional education and development and work collaboratively with post-award team leadership. Responsible for linkages with the School and University’s strategic research administration planning goals, lead program development consistent with the goals of the school developmental and research programs, create and monitor budgeting and research administration planning for programs. Clarify the grant application process, make proposals more competitive for funding, and help in identifying funding for research careers at all levels. Provide faculty development related to grant writing education that further nurtures and supports the school’s growing research enterprise. Design and implement faculty development programs to enhance faculty and program competitiveness for external funding. Provide special support for career development applications. Communicate with faculty, research scientists and project managers on the proper procedures and regulations regarding cost share and facilities & administrative costs. Perform additional duties as assigned. EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s degree. Master’s degree or PhD preferred. EXPERIENCE:

Seven (7) years of progressively building a research background in various departmental functions including managing administrative and financial operations. SUPERVISORY EXPERIENCE:

Two (2) years of experience at management/leadership level. CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE:

Clinical Research Associate (CRA) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
