About the Role

We are seeking a

Senior Software Developer

to support the Department of Housing and Urban Development's Office of the Chief Information Officer (HUD OCIO).

The Senior Software Developer will lead design and delivery of enterprise software for HUD ADPS, providing technical leadership across architecture, development, integration, and modernization. Ensures secure, reliable, and maintainable solutions aligned to HUD's lifecycle, Agile ways of working, and DevSecOps practices.

This is a hybrid remote position based in Washington, D.C. that will require some onsite work at the customer's location. An estimated 25% annual travel within the U.S. will be required.

Responsibilities

Lead end-to-end solution design, coding, code reviews, and integration for enterprise applications. Guide PoCs and pilots from concept to scalable, production-ready implementations. Mentor developers; enforce coding standards, test automation, and quality gates. Provide inputs to weekly status reporting, risk/issue logs, and stakeholder communications. Produce and maintain required technical artifacts (scaling plans, system design docs, test strategies, risk analyses, DR/runbooks). Support briefings/demos, technical reviews, and repository hygiene/version control. Partner with UX, data engineering, DevOps, security, and program management to deliver mission-ready increments. Requirements

Required Experience and Skills

7+ years of software development (including 3+ years in a senior/lead role). Proven delivery in Agile environments with CI/CD and DevSecOps. Experience modernizing or integrating legacy systems into cloud platforms. Advanced experience with AI/ML integration (wrapping or deploying ML models in production systems) preferred. Knowledge of Zero Trust security or service mesh architectures (Istio, Linkerd) preferred. Experience with scaling proofs of concept into enterprise production systems preferred. Previous experience in regulated/federal government environments is a plus. Previous experience supporting HUD OCIO preferred. Ability to pass required Federal background screening and obtain and maintain both government clearance and customer approval. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future. Technical Skills

Programming: Java, C#, Python, and/or TypeScript/JavaScript. Architectures: RESTful APIs, microservices, event-driven patterns. Cloud/Platform: AWS/Azure services, containers (Docker, Kubernetes), IaC (Terraform/ARM). Data: RDBMS and NoSQL design/performance; messaging/streaming a plus. CI/CD & QA: Git-based workflows, pipelines, test automation (JUnit/xUnit, Cypress/Playwright/Selenium). Security: Secure SDLC, secrets/access management, compliance-aware engineering. Core Competencies

Bachelor's in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related field. Preferred: Certified Scrum Developer (CSD), AWS Solutions Architect Associate, or Microsoft Azure Developer/Architect certification. Physical Requirements

Candidates must reside within daily commuting distance of Washington, D.C. Must be willing and able to travel an estimated 25% of time within the U.S. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. May need to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.

Pay Range

The projected annual salary range for this position is $125,000-$130,000 USD. Please note that the salary information listed is a good faith estimate for this position and a general guideline only. Multiple factors are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, the candidate's relevant work experience, skills, education, certifications, and competencies that align with the specified role, geographic location, as well as business considerations and contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.
