Save Job

Our mission is to serve as Uber's go-to legal experts on trade and sanctions risk, enabling high-velocity decision-making across our most complex growth plays: AV technology, AI solutions, cross-border M&A, global supply chains, and new international markets. You'll work at the intersection of legal, product, policy, and strategy to help Uber navigate evolving export controls, sanctions, FDI restrictions, and supply chain regulations. Your impact will shape how Uber expands and innovates globally with speed, confidence, and integrity. What You'll Do Serve as Uber's lead counsel on U.S. and global trade regimes, including export controls (EAR/ITAR) and classification (ECCN/USML), OFAC sanctions, and cross-border investment restrictions. Partner with Corporate Development and Legal during early-stage diligence to advise on trade exposure, jurisdictional risk, and market-entry structuring. Monitor and interpret geopolitical developments (e.g., U.S.-China, MEA, Russia, APAC) and translate them into clear, actionable guidance for business teams. Build and maintain scalable legal frameworks to manage evolving trade risk in AV partnerships, AI development, and global operations. Partner with Policy, Legal, Security, Product, and regional legal teams to ensure coordinated responses to regulatory change and enforcement trends. Support audit readiness, regulator engagement, and internal training across the enterprise as needed. Basic Qualifications Minimum of eight (8) years of legal experience in private practice, government, and/or in-house. J.D. and license to practice law in at least one U.S. state. Significant experience interpreting and applying U.S. and international regulations related to export controls (EAR/ITAR), OFAC sanctions, and FDI regimes. Experience classifying emerging tech under ECCN and USML. Experience with global sanctions and export control laws outside the U.S. (e.g. European Union and Asia) is a plus. Preferred Qualifications At least two (2) years of in-house experience is highly preferred. Future-focused: You track where regulation is going, not just where it is, and shape scalable approaches ahead of the curve. Strong, team-oriented collaborator, with confidence and flexibility to perform in nimble, rapidly changing and growing environments, as well as build relationships and gain credibility with business and legal partners. Superior analytical and legal skills, mature judgment, innovative thinking and a desire to take the initiative and think two steps ahead. Ability to translate complex legal issues and ambiguity into clear and simple advice, to communicate effectively with non-legal internal colleagues, and to interface with a broad range of senior business managers, executives and other colleagues and professionals across our company. Passionate about your work and a desire to have a big impact. Embody the highest standards of integrity, ethics and accountability. Enthusiasm about Uber and our mission!
