POSITION SUMMARY
The Facilities Engineer ensures a safe, clean, and well-maintained environment across Pacific Oaks College and Children’s School campuses. Responsibilities include daily facility opening procedures, general maintenance, custodial support, classroom and event setup, and coordination with vendors and contractors. This role requires hands-on skills in multiple trades, a commitment to safety, and a customer service–oriented approach. This position is located in Pasadena and reports directly to the Facilities Manager. SUPERVISION
May provide guidance and assign work to Facilities staff; may participate in hiring, performance evaluation, and training. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Daily Opening & Preparation Disarm security systems, unlock front doors, open computer labs and classrooms, and turn on lights. Make fresh coffee for staff and guests. Organize classrooms, arrange furniture, and ensure spaces are ready for daily activities. Restock janitorial supplies and check restrooms, kitchens, and hand sanitizer stations. Inspect trash cans and common areas, empty as needed. OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS General Maintenance & Repairs Inspect and maintain buildings, classrooms, playgrounds, and grounds to ensure safety and cleanliness. Perform minor plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and painting repairs. Replace lighting, repair doors/windows, maintain flooring, and perform patch work as needed. Conduct daily building walkthroughs and address safety hazards immediately. Custodial & Event Setup Perform routine cleaning (mopping, vacuuming, shampooing carpets, pressure washing). Set up classrooms, conference rooms, and event spaces, including furniture arrangement and AV equipment. Assist with office moves and ergonomic equipment installations. Operations & Vendor Coordination Respond to and complete facilities work orders promptly. Monitor and maintain inventory for janitorial, office, and coffee/tea service supplies. Coordinate with contracted custodial, landscaping, and maintenance services; report issues to Facilities Manager. Support emergency preparedness and evacuation procedures. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Ability to work in varied indoor/outdoor conditions, including inclement weather. Basic proficiency in plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and general repairs. Ability to work on ladders, scaffolding, and uneven surfaces. Effective communication skills with staff, faculty, students, and vendors. Strong time management, organization, and independent problem-solving skills. Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to travel between campus sites. PREFERRED
Formal training in building systems or facilities maintenance. Experience in higher education or similar institutional settings. REQUIRED EDUCATION
High School education preferred or equivalency EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Required: High school diploma or equivalent; 3+ years of related maintenance/facilities experience. Preferred: Associate’s degree, technical certification, or trade school training. PHYSICAL DEMANDS & ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, and operate hand/power tools. Exposure to noise, dust, cleaning chemicals, and outdoor weather conditions. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed. DISCLAIMER
