Energy Modeling Senior / Consultant | Power Systems & Resource Planning Join our team as an Energy Engineer focused on Energy Modeling Frameworks, where you’ll contribute directly to our resource planning efforts to ensure reliable, sustainable, and compliant energy solutions. This role combines technical modeling expertise with regulatory insight, providing a unique opportunity to support power systems and optimize energy strategies. Key Responsibilities: Model Development & Support:
Utilize advanced IRP modeling software (such as PLEXOS, Aurora, Strategist, SERVM) to develop, maintain, and support robust energy models, ensuring they accurately reflect power systems, energy markets, and regulatory frameworks. Scenario Analysis:
Conduct detailed simulations to assess the impact of various scenarios on power system performance, helping guide resource planning and operational strategies. Data Analysis:
Analyze complex datasets using Python, R, or SQL to derive actionable insights, identify trends, and support decision-making processes. Compliance & Regulatory Monitoring:
Ensure models adhere to relevant codes, standards, and regulations. Proactively monitor regulatory changes and evaluate their effects on modeling and resource planning processes. Documentation & Reporting:
Prepare and review comprehensive documentation for regulatory filings, compliance reports, and internal decision-making purposes. Ideal Candidate: Strong expertise in energy modeling software and experience with power systems and energy markets. Proficiency in advanced data analysis tools (Python, R, SQL) with a proven track record of extracting meaningful insights. Familiarity with regulatory frameworks and the ability to assess and adapt to regulatory changes. EnergyModeling Consultant|PowerSystems&ResourcePlanning BS/BA Degree in business, engineering, economics, finance, information technology, mathematics, physics or similar quantitative field PLUS eight (8) years related business experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience with demonstrated comparable knowledge and abilities. Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Qualifications Proficient computer skills including a thorough knowledge of a commonly used industry programming language to modify large data sets and extensive experience in the applied use of Microsoft Excel, Power Point, Access, and Word is desired. Additional Requirements: Knowledge of principles of economic unit commitment/dispatch, wholesale market operations and the functional and economic characteristics of Company power resources and the interconnected system is desired. Knowledge of natural gas markets including contracts, and utilization within a power plant. Must have strong communication, presentation and writing skills. May be responsible for leading teams in evaluations and implementation of solutions Major Accountabilities
1) Conducts advanced analysis of energy markets, system operations, or other business or operational plans or items utilizing advanced qualitative and quantitative techniques. Supports team members in less complex analysis. 2) Develops and presents information and/or presentations to leaders and executives highlighting or recommending resource plan alternatives based on market trends and conditions, wholesale market changes, or other analytical findings critical to the business. 3) Leads teams in evaluating resource plans, market changes, or other complex analysis requiring input from Legal, Regulatory, Resource Management, Fossil Generation, and other departments. 4) Performs analysis to optimize generation outages, power transactions, and supports traders in developing strategies for serving APS load obligations cost-effectively while maintaining system reliability. 5) Oversees analysts' quantitative analysis using production cost models for resource planning, trading support, and fuel procurement decisions. 6) Leads evaluation of historic and forecasted market data to develop forecasts and support business performance. 7) Develops detailed reports such as the Integrated Resource Plan or white papers to support decision-making. 8) Performs economic and financial studies, including cash flow analysis, rates of return, and revenue requirements. 9) Provides technical support with advanced quantitative methods for system operations, trading, and risk management. 10) Leads project teams, fostering a cooperative culture and removing barriers. 11) Influences strategic planning efforts and manages projects across APS departments. 12) Maintains awareness of industry trends, regulations, stakeholders, and market impacts through participation in industry forums.
