Job Summary

The Mental Health Technician (MHT) provides direct patient care, observation, and recovery support in a psychiatric and behavioral health setting. MHTs play a key role in patient safety, therapeutic activities, and addiction recovery support, working closely with nurses and clinicians to help patients achieve their recovery goals. Important: All new hires must be able to attend a mandatory 5-day orientation (MondayFriday, 8:30 AM 5:00 PM) before starting their schedule. Attendance is required for employment. Key Responsibilities

Monitor patient behavior, mood, and physical condition in psychiatric or addiction recovery units Provide direct support in mental health and substance abuse treatment settings Document observations and interventions in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) Perform routine safety rounds and participate in crisis intervention when needed Lead or assist in psychoeducational groups, recovery meetings, and therapeutic activities Support patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including hygiene, meals, and mobility Maintain accurate patient records, progress notes, and incident reports Ensure compliance with hospital policies, safety procedures, and regulatory standards Deliver trauma-informed care and recovery-oriented support for individuals with dual diagnoses Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or GED required Associate degree or coursework in Psychology, Human Services, Behavioral Health, Social Work, or related field preferred Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in mental health, behavioral health, psychiatric care, detox, or substance abuse treatment required Experience with dual diagnosis populations strongly preferred Certifications: Current CPR Certification required Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification preferred or ability to complete upon hire Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of psychiatric disorders, addiction recovery, and behavioral health treatment principles Strong communication skills and ability to interact with patients in crisis Crisis intervention, de-escalation, and conflict resolution skills Ability to maintain boundaries and deliver trauma-informed, patient-centered care Proficiency with Electronic Health Records (EHR) preferred Work Environment & Requirements
