The Sr Real Estate Underwriter is a vital senior position, completing the underwriting process for all mortgage loans originated by the credit union, ensuring that every decision made upholds the highest standards of integrity . This position requires a comprehensive analysis of all real estate loan applications, strictly adhering to the credit union's guidelines to decisively approve, deny, or issue counteroffers. This role will actively collaborate with vendors, partners, and internal departments to ensure that we deliver exceptional service to our members seeking real estate loans at the credit union. Availability Required : Monday - Friday (7am-7pm) and Saturday (7am- 5pm) Essential Functions and Responsibilities Personally, provides exceptional member service; uses Service Standards in every work-related interaction. Actively participates in meeting the goals of the department and the Credit Union. Work cooperatively with others as part of a formal or informal team to accomplish department and Credit Union goals. Provides excellent service by using a positive and professional tone to assist callers and team members accurately, thoroughly, and as efficiently as possible while maintaining consistent and friendly service. Uses organizational tools and techniques to complete tasks on time and successfully manage multiple competing priorities simultaneously. Service Leads by example with a positive and professional tone and demeanor when assisting team members. Serves as a strong example of work ethic, professionalism, and conduct. Assist team members and members by answering complex real estate questions. Acts as a liaison between member and branch team as related to real estate loan applications. Takes member real estate applications and prepares loans for approval and funding. Identifies cross-sell opportunities. Analyzes the overall risk of each real estate transaction. Reviews and evaluates all mortgage related loan documentation including, but not limited to: credit reports, employment verification, cash flow statements, individual and business tax returns, property appraisals, title reports, flood and hazard reports, insurance documents, and automated underwriting system report. Determines if the borrower, property, and loan terms meet the Credit Union, secondary market/investors, and regulatory standards. Reviews property appraisals to confirm its value, and ensures it meets safety and habitable standards. Examines the borrower's credit history, credit score, assets, debt-to-income (DTI) ratio, and financial statements to determine their ability to repay the loan. Assesses the acceptability of loans for sale to secondary market investors, specifically government sponsored enterprises, ensuring all conditions and documentation meet requirements for purchase. Underwrites loan applications based on the Credit Union and applicable investor guidelines. Makes final approvals on all real estate loans up to their approval authority limit. Records loan rejections with detailed rationale, citing guidelines and the basis for declining the application. Serves as the primary point of contact for vendors, partners, and internal departments for real estate application related inquiries and concerns, ensuring effective communication. Has comprehensive knowledge of the mortgage loan process, including but not limited to: reviewing applications, pre-approvals, processing, underwriting, conditional approvals, clearing stipulations/conditions, disclosures, closing, funding, recording, and servicing. Creates/monitors real estate application data; such as referrals, application submissions, and funding data. No aggressive sales goals – our focus is serving Members.
