The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The salary range for this position is $131,770-224,009/year. New hires are typically brought into the organization between $150,000-177,890/year. Courses and Career Development Resources* EcoPass (unlimited free RTD bus/train rides)* Supervision, leadership, and mentoring of a team of six professional plan review supervisors and specialists (who oversee about 40 specialized staff of architects and engineers) including trades and specialties for the Denver international airport, energy, architecture, structural, mechanical/plumbing, and electrical engineering* In-depth analysis, prioritization, and coordination with supervisors and staff in Community Planning & Development and outside the department for projects subject to Denver Permitting Office timeframe criteria and interventions* Large policy and planning initiatives such as: Colorado legislative bill tracking, response, and action items; Cold-weather shelter facilities planning and analysis; Tiger Team initiatives review and response; Code development, adoption, and implementation; Proposition 123 compliance; and AI completeness check and plan review project evaluation and support* Working and supporting coordination with other city departments (CASR, DFD, DOTI, DDPHE, Parks & Rec, General Services, CAO, DEDO, HOST, OSE, and TS) across a large variety of topics and projects such as Electric vehicle charging; Derelict and dangerous buildings; Restaurant developer and tenant support; adaptive reuse; and technology changes and integration* Internal and external policy and best practices development, updates, and coordination across plan review and inspection teams* Acting as a strategic point of contact for escalations and resolution identification for internal and external issues related to staff, processes, specific development projects, or top-level inquiries (i.e., mayor’s office, council, departmental executive and senior leadership)* Internal training program development, implementation, tracking, and reporting to meet the requirements of teams, the department, the Denver Permitting Office, and external entities (i.e., continuing education, ISO BCEGS, city auditor, and ICC)* Other duties as assigned from time to time as may be necessary to support the building official’s, department’s, and city’s projects and goals* At least five years supervising, supporting, or mentoring professional engineers, architects, and non-licensed support staff with a variety of skill sets* Solution-oriented mindset with agile problem-solving abilities across a wide range of topics including customer service, technical regulatory compliance, and short- and long-term project planning* Willingness to learn new skills and to react constructively to a dynamic work environment and changing priorities with a positive attitude* Presentation creation and delivery skills for a variety of audiences who possess a wide range of knowledge (from technical subject matter experts to elected officials to laypersons)* Readiness to champion paradigm-shifting departmental and city-wide goals to best support staff and customers* Desire to think and plan at a high level (‘50,000 ft view’) and at a highly granular level (‘1,000 ft view’) across a wide variety of responsibilities* Ability to plan and act strategically and dynamically depending on the individual or audience (i.e., mayor’s office, council members, multi-departmental senior leadership, developers, design professionals, contractors, etc.)* Robust written, verbal, and non-verbal communication skills adapted to the person or group receiving the information* Ability to independently plan, develop, and execute projects with little oversight or intervention following initial directives* Experience mentoring direct reports and colleagues and successfully coaching underperforming staff in areas of technical regulation application, professional communication, and productivity* Education requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Architecture.* Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of experience at the type and level of functional or operational management, which must have included supervising licensed engineers or architects.* Education/Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted.* Additional appropriate education may be substituted for experience requirements.* License/Certifications: By position, requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application.* Requires registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) by the Colorado State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers at the time of application.
