UNM IT is looking for a Senior Core IT Services Specialist to help develop and guide university adoption of AI services to support teaching and learning. This position will report to UNM's Director of Online Strategies and Academic Technologies and work in a department that is passionate about empowering students and faculty to participate in higher education through the ethical and effective adoption of technology. From the rapid expansion of online and hybrid meetings that resulted from the COVID-19 pandemic to transformative impacts of artificial intelligence, technology is playing an increasing role in the delivery of education, in classrooms, computer labs, makerspaces, back offices, and online. Key to that successful transformation is an awareness of the intersection of technology, pedagogy, and higher education policy as we design and develop solutions to ensure that the digital divide doesn't leave any members of our diverse student body behind. The success of this position will depend on collaboration and partnership. As part of the management team for the department, this position is part of a mission-driven group that is dedicated to support of digital transformation opportunities within the university, advances in student success and faculty pedagogy approaches that leverage technology, and educational access for students. This position will have regular interactions with students, faculty, and staff positions across a wide variety of offices including IT, UNM Online, the Institute of Design and Innovation, the Office of the Provost, all UNM colleges, schools, and branches, and many academic and administrative departments that depend on UNM IT for services. Responsibilities Serve as the resident expert in specialized areas of academic technology and the application of AI and Large Language Models to support teaching and learning, providing technical leadership and guidance to faculty, staff, and students across the University of New Mexico. Work with AI leads in other IT director areas to design, implement, and support innovative AI-driven services and solutions to enhance teaching, learning, and research within the academic environment. Collaborate with university stakeholders to identify and evaluate opportunities for integrating artificial intelligence into existing educational technologies and processes and refine guidance and policy to support ethical and effective adoption of AI tools. Develop and deliver training materials and workshops on academic technologies and AI tools to faculty, staff, and student users. Conduct research and provide recommendations on emerging trends in AI and educational technology to inform strategic planning and continuous improvement initiatives. Customize, configure, and troubleshoot academic technology platforms, including AI-enabled applications, to meet the evolving needs of the UNM community. Contribute to the development and documentation of technical procedures, best practices, and user guides related to academic and AI technologies. Participate in cross-functional project teams, supporting the implementation and scaling of AI initiatives within the university's academic infrastructure.
